Charles Epperson (June 16, 1919 – December 16, 1996) was an American basketball player. He was an early professional player in the National Basketball League (which later merged with the Basketball Association of America to form the NBA) and was a starter on the University of Wisconsin's 1941 national championship team. Epperson, a 6'1" forward from Jackson, Michigan, played college basketball at Wisconsin for future Hall of Fame coach Bud Foster. Epperson played from 1939 to 1942 and, as a junior, was a starting forward for the Badgers' 1941 national championship team. Popsicle is a Good Humor-Breyers brand of ice pop consisting of flavored, colored ice on a stick. History In 1905 in Oakland, California, 11-year-old Francis William "Frank" Epperson was mixing a powdered flavoring for soft drinks with water. He accidentally left it on the back porch overnight, with a stirring stick still in it. That night, the temperature dropped below freezing, and the next morning, Epperson discovered the drink had frozen to the stick, inspiring the idea of a fruit-flavored "Popsicle". In 1922, he introduced the creation at a fireman's ball, where according to reports it was "a sensation". In 1923, Epperson began selling the frozen pops to the public at Neptune Beach, an amusement park in Alameda, California. By 1924 Epperson had received a patent for his "frozen confectionery" which he called "the Epsicle ice pop". He renamed it to Popsicle, allegedly at the insistence of his children. John Epperson (born April 24, 1955) is an American drag artist, actor, pianist, vocalist, and writer who is mainly known for creating his stage character Lypsinka. As Lypsinka he lip-synchs to meticulously edited, show-length soundtracks culled from snippets of outrageous 20th-century female performances in movies and song. Early life Epperson was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. He took lessons in classical piano from an early age. After high school he enrolled at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from Belhaven he got a job playing piano in Colorado, but in 1978 he moved to New York and became a full-time rehearsal pianist for the American Ballet Theatre in 1980.
