Engine House No. 7 is a former Columbus Fire Department station in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. It was built in 1888 and was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1994. Today the building houses a local branch of the Communications Workers of America, Local 4501. Attributes The firehouse building is visibly similar to Engine House No. 8, which was put into service on the same day. History The engine house was completed in 1888. Columbus () is the state capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Ohio. Columbus Division Of Fire
The Columbus Division of Fire (CFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services to Columbus, Ohio. The department operates 35 stations; the newest station opened March 2020. The stations are divided into seven battalions. The Columbus Division of Fire oversees 35 engine companies, 16 ladder companies, 5 rescue companies, and 40 EMS transport vehicles as well as several special units and reserve apparatus. It is staffed by a minimum of 292 personnel during daytime hours (first 12 hours) and 331 during nighttime hours (second 12 hours). The department also oversees 39 medic companies. There are 1,592 uniformed and 70 civilian professionals serving the citizens of Columbus, Ohio. The department is accredited by the Committee on Fire Accreditation International, granted in 2007. Weinland Park
Weinland Park is a neighborhood north of downtown Columbus, Ohio and encompassed by the boundaries of the University District. A development boom in the 1930s and 1940s resulting from new streetcar lines and the blossoming of factories brought working and middle-class families to the neighborhood. Current housing stock consists primarily of single family residential buildings that have been converted to rentals or multifamily housing. Row-homes and apartment buildings are also ubiquitous in the neighborhood. Renters currently outnumber owners. Commercial and entertainment facilities are concentrated on the North High Street corridor, but also pocket the inner part of the neighborhood as well. The Columbus Register of Historic Properties is a register for historic buildings and other sites in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The register is maintained by the City of Columbus Historic Resources Commission and Historic Preservation Office, and was established in 1980. Many of these landmarks are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, providing federal tax support for preservation, and some are further designated National Historic Landmarks, providing additional federal oversight. Central Ohio Fire Museum
The Central Ohio Fire Museum is a firefighting museum in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The museum is housed in the former Engine House No. 16 of the Columbus Fire Department, built in 1908. It was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1983 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The building was completed in 1908, built as the last in the city to accommodate horse-drawn engines (the transition to motorized equipment began one year later). It was remodeled several times for larger equipment, and was closed in 1982 when the new Engine House No. 1 was built two blocks away. The city began leasing the station to the Central Ohio Fire Museum, which facilitated a restoration of the building's exterior in 1990.
