The electricity sector in Guyana is dominated by Guyana Power and Light (GPL), the state-owned vertically integrated utility. Although the country has a large potential for hydroelectric and bagasse-fueled power generation, most of its 226 MW of installed capacity correspond to thermoelectric diesel-engine driven generators. Reliability or electricity supply is very low, linked both to technical and institutional deficiencies in the sector, with total losses close to 40% and commercial losses of about 30%. This low reliability has led most firms to install their own diesel generators, which in turn leads to higher than average electricity costs. Bagasse ( ) is the dry pulpy fibrous material that remains after crushing sugarcane or sorghum stalks to extract their juice. It is used as a biofuel for the production of heat, energy, and electricity, and in the manufacture of pulp and building materials. Kuribrong River
The Kuribrong River is a river of Guyana, a tributary of the Potaro River 2 miles north east of Potaro Landing. The Kuribrong is a part of the Essequibo River basin, and supports endemic fish species. The geological make up of the river is schistose quartz-porphyrite and sericite schist, and quartz boulders making up any major river obstruction. The river was deemed to be of low interest for gold mining, to contrast with other rivers of the region. Economic use There is a settlement at "Kuribrong River, Mona Falls" with a population of 28 in the 2012 census.
