Pseudomonadota
Pseudomonadota (synonym Proteobacteria) is a major phylum of Gram-negative bacteria. The renaming of phyla in 2021 remains controversial among microbiologists, many of whom continue to use the earlier names of long standing in the literature. Gammaproteobacteria is a class of bacteria in the phylum Pseudomonadota (synonym Proteobacteria). It contains about 250 genera, which makes it the most genera-rich taxon of the Prokaryotes. Several medically, ecologically, and scientifically important groups of bacteria belong to this class. It is composed by all Gram-negative microbes and is the most phylogenetically and physiologically diverse class of Proteobacteria. These microorganisms can live in several terrestrial and marine environments, in which they play various important roles, including ''extreme environments'' such as hydrothermal vents. The Oceanospirillales are an order of Pseudomonadota with ten families. Description Bacteria in the ''Oceanospirillales'' are metabolically and morphologically diverse, with some able to grow in the presence of oxygen and others requiring an anaerobic environment. Members of the ''Oceanospirillales'' can be halotolerant or halophilic and require high salt concentrations to grow. While they grow in diverse niches, all ''Oceanospirillales'' derive their energy from the breakdown of various organic products. ''Endozoicomonas'' is a genus of Gram-negative, aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, chemoorganotrophic, rod-shaped, marine bacteria from the family of Hahellaceae. ''Endozoicomonas'' are symbionts of marine animals. Scientific History The genus was firstly proposed in 2007 after isolating an unknown Gammaproteobacteria from the sea slug ''Elysia ornata''. Called '' E. numazuensis,'' it was the first of many diverse species now known, and was collected from seawater off the coast of Izu-Miyake Island, Japan, at a depth of 15 m.
