The electoral district of Dandenong is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was first proclaimed in 1904 when the district of Dandenong and Berwick was abolished. Berwick, Victoria
Berwick () is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Casey local government area. Berwick recorded a population of 50,298 at the 2021 census. It was named by an early leaseholder Robert Gardiner after his birthplace Berwick-on-Tweed in Northumberland. History The town of Berwick was originally part of the Cardinia Creek run. Subdivision started in 1854 and a store, post office, hotel and other businesses were established. Wheat, barley and potatoes were grown, with a flour mill operating for several years. Dairy farming and cheese making later became the main activities. The Berwick Agricultural Society, originally started in 1848 as the Mornington Farmers' Society, is one of the oldest farmers' societies in Victoria. Pakenham Railway Line
The Pakenham line is a commuter railway line in the city of Melbourne, Victoria. Operated by Metro Trains Melbourne, it is the longest metropolitan railway line at 57 km (35.42 mi). Coloured light blue on the Melbourne rail map, the line runs from Flinders Street station in central Melbourne to Pakenham station in the south-east, serving 27 stations via the City Loop, South Yarra, Caulfield, Oakleigh, and Dandenong. The line operates for ~20 hours a day (from approximately 4:00 am to around midnight) with 24 hour service available on Friday nights and weekends. During peak hour, headways of up to 6 to 12 minutes are operated with services every 20 minutes during off-peak hours. Trains on the Pakenham line run with a seven-car formation operated by HCMTs. Eumemmerring College
Eumemmerring College is a former Australian co-educational government school with multiple campuses, and was Victoria's largest government secondary college, and 3rd largest school in Australia. The college opened as the Hallam High School in February 1971, with only ninety students and five teachers. In 1990, a second campus of the school was established at Fountain Gate, and the name Eumemmerring was chosen for both campuses (named for the creek draining the area occupied by the school). The college also consisted of two campuses in Endeavour Hills; Gleneagles and Endeavour Hills. In 2008, the decision was made to disaggregate Eumemmerring College into four separate secondary schools, effective as of the 2009 school year. In 2022, Hallam Senior College will close and a new school encompassing a year 7-12 curriculum will be on the site under a new name. Churchill National Park
The Churchill National Park is a national park located in the Greater Melbourne region of Victoria, Australia. The national park is situated southeast of Melbourne adjacent to the suburb of , which lies between Rowville and Endeavour Hills in the far north of the City of Casey. Admiral Arthur Phillip (11 October 1738 – 31 August 1814) was a British Royal Navy officer who served as the first governor of the Colony of New South Wales. John Fawkner
John Pascoe Fawkner (20 October 1792 – 4 September 1869) was an early Australian pioneer, businessman and politician of Melbourne, Australia. In 1835 he financed a party of free settlers from Van Diemen's Land (now called Tasmania), to sail to the mainland in his ship, '' Enterprize''. Fawkner's party sailed to Port Phillip and up the Yarra River to found a settlement which became the city of Melbourne. Matthew Flinders
Captain Matthew Flinders (16 March 1774 – 19 July 1814) was a British navigator and cartographer who led the first inshore circumnavigation of mainland Australia, then called New Holland. He is also credited as being the first person to utilise the name ''Australia'' to describe the entirety of that continent including Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania), a title he regarded as being "more agreeable to the ear" than previous names such as ''Terra Australis''. Flinders was involved in several voyages of discovery between 1791 and 1803, the most famous of which are the circumnavigation of Australia and an earlier expedition when he and George Bass confirmed that Van Diemen's Land was an island. Thomas Mitchell (explorer)
Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (15 June 1792 – 5 October 1855), surveyor and explorer of Southeastern Australia, was born at Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, Scotland. In 1827 he took up an appointment as Assistant Surveyor General of New South Wales. The following year he became Surveyor General and remained in this position until his death. Mitchell was knighted in 1839 for his contribution to the surveying of Australia.
