Hickory Township is a township in Forest County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census, the township population was 416, a decline from 558 in 2010. History The West Hickory Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Geography Hickory Township is located in northwestern Forest County, and is bordered to the north by Warren County. The Allegheny River forms the western boundary of the township. U.S. Route 62 follows the east side of the river through the township, leading north to Warren and south to Tionesta. Pennsylvania Route 666 crosses the township from US-62 at East Hickory in the west to Kellettville in neighboring Kingsley Township. In addition to East Hickory, unincorporated places in Hickory Township include Queen, Endeavor, Church Hill, and Little Hickory. Allegheny National Forest
The Allegheny National Forest is a National Forest in Northwestern Pennsylvania, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The forest covers of land. The Allegheny National Forest has two ranger stations, one in Marienville, Forest County, and the other in Bradford, McKean County. The Allegheny National Forest lies in the heart of Pennsylvania's oil and gas region. It is only from the site of the first commercial oil well in the United States at Titusville, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Route 666
Pennsylvania Route 666 (PA 666) is an east–west state route located in northwest Pennsylvania. The western terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 62 (US 62) in the Hickory Township municipality of East Hickory, and its eastern terminus is at US 6 in the hamlet of Sheffield. It cuts through most of Allegheny National Forest, and is therefore sparsely populated, with the largest settlement along the road being Endeavor. Its official name is the David Zeisberger Memorial Highway. The route was assigned in the 1928 numbering of State Routes in Pennsylvania. The highway originally ended in the town of Nebraska until being extended southward along other streets. The route was realigned in 1946 onto its present routing. Young People's Society Of Christian Endeavour
The Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor was founded in Portland, Maine, in 1881 by Francis Edward Clark, as an interdenominational Christian youth society encouraging them to "work together to know God in Jesus Christ". Operating internationally today as World's Christian Endeavor Union, the society's professed objective is "to promote an earnest Christian life among its members, to increase their mutual acquaintanceship, and to make them more useful in the service of God." Formation The Christian Endeavor movement began on February 2, 1881. After the Society was described in a magazine article in 1882, the Society grew initially in the United States and then spread throughout the British Empire and beyond. The movement peaked during the last decade of the nineteenth century and then declined as denominational youth societies imitated and adapted the forms of Christian Endeavor.
