Emmanuel Emovon
Emmanuel Emovon, CON (February 24, 1929 – February 20, 2020) was a Nigerian professor of chemistry and former vice chancellor of the University of Jos. In 1983, he was elected as president of the Nigerian Academy of Science and succeeded Professor Umaru Shehu. Early life and education Professor Emovon was born in February 1929 in Benin City, Edo State, Southern Nigeria. He died on February 20, 2020. He attended Edo College Benin City, where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1949. He proceeded to the University College, Ibadan now University of Ibadan for an intermediate bachelor of science degree course but obtained a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of London and doctorate degree from the same university. He was the first Nigerian to obtain the Ph.D degree of the University of London in Physical Chemistry in 1959. Benin City
Benin City is the capital and largest city of Edo State, Edo State, Nigeria. The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the head of state and head of government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo, , ( ; yo, Olúṣẹ́gun Ọbásanjọ́ ; born 5 March 1937) is a Nigerian political and military leader who served as Nigeria's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007. Ideologically a Nigerian nationalist, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1999 to 2015, and from 2018 has been a member of the African Democratic Congress party (ADC). Umaru Shehu
Umaru Shehu (8 December 1930 – 2 October 2023) was a Nigerian physician and academic administrator. He held significant positions in several universities, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Maiduguri. He was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN). Early life and education Umaru Shehu was born in Maiduguri on 8 December 1930, in the then Borno province (now Borno state) of the North-Eastern State in Northern Nigeria. Shehu attended elementary school in Maiduguri from 1935 to 1940, followed by middle school from 1941 to 1943. From 1944 to 1947, he studied at Kaduna College in Zaria, and then proceeded to University College Ibadan from 1948 to 1953. The Nigerian Academy of Science is the official science academy of Nigeria. The academy of science was established on 18 January 1977, as an association of Nigeria's foremost scientists, but incorporated in 1986. It is the apex scientific organization in Nigeria.
