Emma Davis (writer)
Emma Davis (born 4 July 1987, Bangor, County Down) is a Northern Ireland-born Republic of Ireland, Irish triathlon, triathlete who competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Davis became Ireland's first ever Olympic qualifier for the Triathlon when her 15th place at the 2008 ITU Triathlon World Championships, 2008 World Championships guaranteed her enough ranking points. She finished 37th in the Triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics event competing with two fractures in her sacrum due to a bike crash that occurred during the pre-Olympic training camp in Matsue, Japan just a week before. She continued to compete around the globe, racing on the ETU Cup and ITU Triathlon World Cup series. She was the Biathle World Champion in 2007 and was previously ranked 10th in the World on the ITU ranking list. She is now retired from professional sport and works as a sports therapist in England. Bangor, County Down
Bangor ( ; ) is a city and seaside resort in County Down, Northern Ireland, on the southern side of Belfast Lough. Biathle
Biathle is a sub-sport of modern pentathlon invented to create opportunities for training the run and swim parts of pentathlon in real race conditions. It is a sport in its own right. It bears close resemblance to aquathlon which also contains swimming and running but comes from triathlon sport. Sport Biathle is an event that can involve a run―swim―run course, or simply a swim―run course. It is a world class sport but not an Olympic one. The legs are raced with continuous transitions like triathlon. The race length is usually 200 m swim and 3 km run, which is shorter than aquathlon usually is. Triathlon At The 2008 Summer Olympics
The Triathlon competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics, in Beijing, were held on Monday, August 18 (women) and Tuesday, August 19 (men), on the Triathlon Venue at the Ming Tomb Reservoir in Shisanling. Each competitor started the event with a swim course, followed by a road bicycle race and finished with a road run. Both leg transitions (swimming—cycling and cycling—running) were performed on a special transition area, under judge's scrutiny. ITU Triathlon World Cup
The World Triathlon Cup is an annual series of triathlon races staged around the world. The series is organised by the World Triathlon, the world governing body of the sport. Inaugurated in 1991, the World Cup began as an attempt to create a regular season under its management in tandem with the ITU Triathlon World Championship race. However, this meant that there was a World Cup champion as well as a world champion. Following the 2008 series the ITU reorganized its top level competitions and created the World Triathlon Series, a series of races that was to be the successor of the World Championship. Meanwhile, the World Cup was relegated to become a second tier series, as a result the number of races in the World Cup were reduced.
