Emilia (given Name)
Emilia is a feminine Italian given name of Latin origin. The name is popular all over Europe and the Americas. The corresponding masculine name is Emilio. Emily is the English form of the Italian name. Etymology Emilia is derived from '' Aemilia'', the feminine form of the Latin nomen '' Aemilius''. The name is likely derived from the same root as the Latin word ''aemulus'', which means to rival, excel, or emulate, but this may be a folk etymology. Although similar Germanic names like Amalia may appear to be related to Emilia, Emily and Aemilia, they in fact have a different origin. In Greek, it is often written in the form "Αιμιλία" cognate to the Balkan Mountains of Haemus "Αίμος" and the ancient and modern greek word for blood "Αίμα". Popularity , records indicate that more than 13,500 girls in the United States have been named Emilia since 1880, with numbers increasing markedly from the year 2000.

Latin
Latin (, or , ) is a classical language belonging to the Italic branch of the Indo-European languages. Latin was originally a dialect spoken in the lower Tiber area (then known as Latium) around present-day Rome, but through the power of the Roman Republic it became the dominant language in the Italian region and subsequently throughout the Roman Empire. Even after the fall of Western Rome, Latin remained the common language of international communication, science, scholarship and academia in Europe until well into the 18th century, when other regional vernaculars (including its own descendants, the Romance languages) supplanted it in common academic and political usage, and it eventually became a dead language in the modern linguistic definition. Latin is a highly inflected language, with three distinct genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter), six or seven noun cases (nominative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative, and vocative), five declensions, four verb conjuga ...

Emilia Of Gaeta
Emilia (died January 1036) was the duchess of Gaeta first as consort of John III (984–1008) and then as the regent for her grandson John V (1012–1032) until at least 1029. At the time of her marriage, she bore the Roman title ''senatrix''. She was probably, therefore, of Roman descent, a member of the powerful Crescenzi or Tusculani. Her marriage was most likely an alliance between the ruling Gaetan house and the Roman aristocracy to secure Gaetan favour in the eternal city, the home of both pope and emperor. The wedding took place before January 998, when Emilia appeared with John at the monastery of Saint Nilus the Younger. John died before or in 1008 and she took up a short regency for her son, John IV. When John IV died between April and August 1012, she took over the regency of her grandson, who was an infant. Immediately, she and John were opposed by Leo I, cousin of John IV. By October, her supporters had expelled him. But then she had to deal with the opposit ...
