Emil Huunonen
Emil Huunonen (15 July 1901 – 12 September 1959) was a Finnish trade union leader and politician, born in Johannes. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1948 to 1954, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). He served as Deputy Minister of People's Service from 29 July 1949 to 17 March 1950, as Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works from 29 July 1949 to 17 March 1950, from 20 September to 29 November 1952 and from 3 December 1952 to 9 July 1953, as Deputy Minister of Social Affairs from 29 July 1949 to 17 March 1950 and from 17 January 1951 to 9 July 1953 and as Minister of Transport and Public Works from 29 November to 3 December 1952. Sovetsky (russian: Сове́тский; fi, Johannes) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Vyborgsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Vyborg on the Karelian Isthmus. Population: History Until the Winter War and Continuation War, it had been the administrative center of the Johannes municipality of the Viipuri Province of Finland. The territory had been ceded by Finland to the Soviet Union by the Moscow Peace Treaty as a result of the Winter War. It was recaptured by Finns between 1941 and 1944 during Continuation War but was again ceded to Soviets after Moscow Armistice. This secession was formalized after signing Paris Peace Treaty in 1947. The Finnish Federation of Trade Unions ( fi, Suomen Ammattiyhdistysten Keskusliitto, SAK) was a national trade union centre in Finland. The federation was established in 1930, after the Finnish Trade Union Federation (SAJ) was banned. Its initial affiliates were unions which supported the Social Democratic Party of Finland, whereas the SAJ had been dominated by communists. Over time, the communists became prominent in the SAK, and this led a group of unions to split away in 1960 and form a new Finnish Trade Union Federation (SAJ). 1950 Finnish Presidential Election
Two-stage presidential elections were held in Finland in 1950, the first time the public had been involved in a presidential election since 1937 as three non-popular elections had taken place in 1940, 1943 and 1946.
