Emergence (Neil Sedaka Album)
''Emergence'' is an album by the American pop singer Neil Sedaka, released in 1971. The album was issued on the RCA Victor label, marking a short-lived reunion between Sedaka and RCA since RCA dropped him from their label at the end of 1966. ''Emergence'' was released in some areas on Kirshner Records, Don Kirshner's private record label. The album was not a sales success, but has acquired a cult following among Sedaka's fans. Four of its songs made their way onto 45 rpm singles releases: "I'm A Song (Sing Me)" b/w "Silent Movies" and "Superbird" b/w "Rosemary Blue". Of all the albums Sedaka has recorded, he considers ''Emergence'' to be his favorite. Neil Sedaka
Neil Sedaka (; born March 13, 1939) is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. Since his music career began in 1957, he has sold millions of records worldwide and has written or co-written over 500 songs for himself and other artists, collaborating mostly with lyricists Howard Greenfield, Howard "Howie" Greenfield and Phil Cody. After a short-lived tenure as a founding member of the doo-wop group the Tokens, Sedaka achieved a string of hit singles over the late 1950s and early 1960s, including "Oh! Carol" (1959), "Calendar Girl (song), Calendar Girl" (1960), "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" (1961) and "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" (1962). ''Steppin' Out'' is a 1976 album containing the works of Neil Sedaka. In America it was the third and final album of a trilogy of albums issued by The Rocket Record Company. (Rocket would issue a compilation album, '' Neil Sedaka's Greatest Hits'', in 1977; but it contained no new material.) Outside America ''Steppin' Out'' was issued on the Polydor label. Howard Greenfield (March 15, 1936 – March 4, 1986) was an American lyricist and songwriter, who for several years in the 1960s worked out of the famous Brill Building. He is best known for his successful songwriting collaborations, including one with Neil Sedaka from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s, and near-simultaneous (and equally successful) songwriting partnerships with Jack Keller and Helen Miller throughout most of the 1960s. A cult following refers to a group of fans who are highly dedicated to some person, idea, object, movement, or work, often an artist, in particular a performing artist, or an artwork in some medium. Donald Kirshner (April 17, 1934 – January 17, 2011) was an American music publisher, music consultant, rock music producer, talent manager, and songwriter. Dubbed "the Man with the Golden Ear" by ''Time'' magazine, he was best known for managing songwriting talent as well as successful pop groups, such as the Monkees, Kansas, and the Archies. Early life Don Kirshner was born to a Jewish family in the Bronx, New York, United States, the son of Gilbert Kirshner, a tailor, and Belle Jaffe. He graduated from George Washington High School in Manhattan, and went on to study at Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey.
