The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Islamabad is the diplomatic mission of Russia to Pakistan. The post of List of ambassadors of Russia to Pakistan, Russian Ambassador to Pakistan is currently held by , incumbent since 11 April 2019. There is a consulate general in Karachi, and an honorary consul is based in Lahore. Overview The first Russian embassy was established in Karachi on 1 May 1948 with the beginning of diplomatic relations with Pakistan. In August 1960 the capital was moved from Karachi to Islamabad, with the embassy in Karachi becoming a consulate-general, while a new embassy was established in Islamabad. Islamabad (; ur, , ) is the capital city of Pakistan. It is the country's ninth-most populous city, with a population of over 1.2 million people, and is federally administered by the Pakistani government as part of the Islamabad Capital Territory. Built as a planned city in the 1960s, it replaced Rawalpindi as Pakistan's national capital. The city is notable for its high standards of living, safety, cleanliness, and abundant greenery. Greek architect Constantinos Apostolou Doxiadis developed Islamabad's master plan, in which he divided it into eight zones; administrative, diplomatic enclave, residential areas, educational and industrial sectors, commercial areas, as well as rural and green areas administered by the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation with support from the Capital Development Authority.
