Elz (Rhein)
The Elz is a river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, a right tributary of the Rhine. It rises in the Black Forest, near the source of the Breg. The Elz flows through Elzach, Waldkirch and Emmendingen before reaching the Rhine near Lahr. Its length is approx. . The lower reaches of the Elz are by-passed by the Leopold Canal, a flood relief canal. Course The Elz rises north of Furtwangen in the area of the Brend and the Rohrhardsberg mountains (between the Furtwänglehof and the Kolmenhof) not far from the source of the Breg which is hydrographically the source of the Danube. In its upper reaches the Elz flows in a northerly direction, initially through a high valley with pasture land, bog and ice age glacial landforms. Hörnleberg
The Hörnleberg is a mountain, , in the Central Black Forest in southern Germany. Its summit pyramid rises around 600 metres above the apex formed by the valleys of the Elz (Rhein), Elz and the Gutach (Elz), Wild Gutach. Currently (2012, after forestry work) it has a view of the Elz valley and the Upper Rhine Plain. At the summit is the pilgrimage chapel of Our Dear Lady (''Unsere Liebe Frau''), which was presumably built in the 8th or 9th century. The first record of the ''capella uf dem Hörnlin'' dates to the year 1469, in a prebendary occupancy book of the Diocese of Konstanz. According to legend, a blind man from the Alsace swore that if God gave him back his sight, he would build a chapel in honour of Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mary on the first mountain that he saw. Lahr
Lahr (officially Lahr/Schwarzwald since 30 September 1978) (); gsw, label=Low Alemannic, Lohr) is a town in western Baden-Württemberg, Germany, approximately 50 km north of Freiburg im Breisgau, 40 km southeast of Strasbourg, and 95 km southwest of Karlsruhe. It is the second largest city in Ortenau (district) after Offenburg, and serves as an intermediate economic centre for the cities and towns of Ettenheim, Friesenheim, Kappel-Grafenhausen, Kippenheim, Mahlberg, Meißenheim, Ringsheim, Rust, Schuttertal, Schwanau and Seelbach. Breg (river)
The Breg is a river, 46 kilometres long, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and the primary headstream of the Danube. Description The '' Breg '' is the longest and biggest headstream of the River Danube. It flows through the southeast part of the Middle Black Forest and the lowlands of the Baar region. The Breg rises at a height of , six kilometres northwest of Furtwangen. Its source, which is near St. Martin's Chapel and is also called the source of the Danube or ''Donauquelle'', is protected as a natural monument. Rohrhardsberg
The Rohrhardsberg is a mountain in the Central Black Forest in southern Germany. At 1,152.1 metres (3,780 ft) above sea level, it is the northernmost summit of the elongated, north-south oriented Farnberg Plateau that has several high points over 1,150 metres. The mountain is situated near Elzach in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Location The Farnberg Plateau, which includes the Rohrhardsberg lies in the triangle between the valleys of the Elz, Oberprechtal and Simonswäldertal. Brend (mountain)
The Brend is a mountain, ,{{GeoQuelle, DE, BFN-Karten in the Central Black Forest in Germany. It is the highest point in the borough of Furtwangen of which it is the ''Hausberg''. Location Located in the county of Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis, the Brend is its second highest point after the elongated Rohrhardsberg-Farnberg Plateau. Before the 1973 county reform it was the highest point in the county of Donaueschingen. The southern mountainside of the Brend lies in the parish of Simonswald in the county of Emmendingen.
