Elwyn Flint
Elwyn Flint (12 May 1910 – 10 December 1983) was an Australian linguist and academic, who undertook extensive surveys of English languages and dialects throughout Queensland, in particular Australian Aboriginal communities in the 1960s. Early life Elwyn Henry Flint was born on 12 May 1910 to Edmund Henry Flint and his wife Mabel. He was a cousin of the Rev. A.C. Flint. He attended Windsor State School and Brisbane State High School and won an open scholarship at the age of 16 to attend the University of Queensland in 1928. He graduated in 1930 with a B.A., first class honours degree in modern languages and literature and a government gold medal for outstanding merit. Career He took up work as a Reader at the University of Queensland until this contract expired in 1932. Weipa () is a coastal mining town in the local government area of Weipa Town in Queensland. It is the largest town on the Cape York Peninsula. It exists because of the enormous bauxite deposits along the coast. The Port of Weipa is mainly involved in exports of bauxite. There are also shipments of live cattle from the port. In the , Weipa had a population of 3,899 people. Geography Weipa is on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula facing the Gulf of Carpentaria. Arnhem Land is a historical region of the Northern Territory of Australia, with the term still in use. Woorabinda is a rural town and locality in the Aboriginal Shire of Woorabinda, Queensland, Australia. In the , Woorabinda had a population of 962 people. It is an Aboriginal community. Geography Woorabinda is in Central Queensland, inland about two hours' drive west of Rockhampton. The seasonal Mimosa Creek is nearby and is a source of local water. During rainy season, the town can be isolated due to road flooding. Access is via the Fitzroy Developmental Road, which is sealed north towards Duaringa and where it meets the Capricorn Highway to Rockhampton. To the south, it is gravel road to Bauhinia, where it meets the Dawson Highway and access to Gladstone. East is the sealed Baralaba-Woorabinda Road, seasonally cut off by flooding.
