Elwyn Brook-Jones
Elwyn Brook-Jones (11 December 1911 – 4 September 1962) was a British theatre, film and television actor. Life Brook-Jones was born in Kuching, Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. After a private education, he attended Jesus College, Oxford. His public debut was in Australia, aged 11, as a concert pianist; he later made cabaret appearances in the US and the Far East. He was a repertory actor, first appearing in London in 1943 in ''Hedda Gabler'' as Judge Brack, before going on to appear in many productions in the West End, films and television. In the BBC children's series ''Garry Halliday'', he was the hero's opponent "The Voice". His most prominent film role was arguably Tober in Carol Reed's ''Odd Man Out'' (1947). He was also Gladwin in Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's ''The Small Back Room'' (1949) and the Emir in ''The Pure Hell of St Trinian's'' (1960). He died in Reading, Berkshire, aged 50. Garry Halliday
''Garry Halliday'' is a British television series for children on the BBC from 1959 to 1962. The show starred Terence Longdon as airman Garry Halliday. The episodes were based on books by Justin Blake: Justin Blake was in fact a pseudonym for the writers John Griffith Bowen and Jeremy Bullmore. Plot Reminiscent of Biggles, Halliday was a pilot for a commercial airline, Halliday Charter Company, and flew to his adventures in an aircraft with the call sign Golf Alpha Oboe Roger George. He was assisted by co-pilot Bill Dodds, played by Terence Alexander, who was later Charlie in ''Bergerac (TV series), Bergerac''. The airline's control base station was Lima Foxtrot. ''Good-Time Girl'' is a 1948 British film noir-crime drama film directed by David MacDonald. A homeless girl is asked to explain her bad behaviour in the juvenile court, and says she’s run away from home because she’s unhappy there. They explain in detail what happened to the last girl who thought she could cope on her own, and this becomes the main plot. Plot The film opens with Miss Thorpe, chairwoman of the Juvenile Court, giving advice to troubled teenager Lyla Lawrence. Miss Thorpe tells Lyla that her life has a similar beginning to that of Gwen Rawlings. She then recounts Gwen's story in a series of flashbacks.
