Ellistown GFC
Ellistown is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of four county senior football championships, including two under their former name of "Mountrice Blunts". They also played as Knavinstown for a period and combined with Ballykelly to form an area team, St. Brigids. Jack Donnelly was a member of the Kildare football team of the millennium. History Founded on 29 January 1888, by the time they were four years in existence, Wilfred Scawen Blunts of Mountrice had won two fierce local derby county finals with Kildare reached the Leinster final, and started a football tradition in the area that continues. Rathangan, County Kildare
Rathangan (; ) is a town in the west of County Kildare, Ireland. , the population was 2,611. It is located from the centre of Dublin, and from Kildare, at the intersection of the R401, R414, and R419 regional roads. The Slate River and the Grand Canal run through the town. Rathangan is situated beside the Bog of Allen, and is in close proximity to the lowlands of the Curragh. In recent years, the town has grown significantly to become a big commuter base for people working in Dublin. Sarsfield's GAA (Kildare)
Sarsfields is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Newbridge in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 25 Kildare Senior Football Championships. The club name is linked to Patrick Sarsfield's castle in the area and the colours, green with white sash, were based on the colours allegedly worn by Sarsfield's men. Pat "Boiler" White (grandfather of current Kildare footballer Gary White) was a member of the Kildare Gaelic football team of the millennium. Niall Buckley was an All Stars Award winner at midfield in 1997. Dermot Earley was an All Stars Award at left half forward winner in 1998 and at Mid-Field in 2009. Eoghan Corry
Eoghan Corry ( ga, Eoghan Ó Cómhraí; born 19 January 1961) is an Irish journalist and author. He is the lead commentator on travel for media in Ireland, having edited travel sections in national newspapers and travel publications since the 1980s. Kildare Junior Football Championship
The Kildare Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Kildare GAA clubs. The winning club plays in the Kildare Intermediate Football Championship in the following year. As of the 2022 season there is an overall Junior Championship winner as well as a Junior A winner (competed for between the bottom four teams in the Junior Championship Round Robin Group 2). There have been various iterations of the competition, which started in 1906 as the secondary competition to the Kildare Senior Football Championship. In 1928 a Kildare Intermediate Football Championship was started for middle tier teams with the Junior Championship ranking below that. In 1947 the Junior Championship was split into A and B competitions with the winners competing for the overall Junior title. The Kildare Intermediate Football Championship, or Kildare I.F.C., is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kildare GAA clubs since 1928. The winners currently receive the Hugh Campion Cup in honour of the Suncroft official who served as County Board Chairman from 1972 to 1981. Qualification for subsequent competitions Leinster Intermediate Club Football Championship The Kildare IFC winner qualifies for the Leinster Intermediate Club Football Championship. It is the only team from County Kildare to qualify for this competition. Carbury GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 11 Kildare county senior football championships and participants in eight successive county finals between 1965 and 1972. Ollie Crinnigan and (an All Star in 1978) and Pat Mangan (replacement All Star on two occasions) were on the Kildare football team of the millennium. The Curragh ( ; ga, An Currach ) is a flat open plain of almost of common land in County Kildare. This area is well known for Irish horse breeding and training. The Irish National Stud is located on the edge of Kildare town, beside the famous Japanese Gardens. Also located here is Pollardstown Fen, the largest fen in Ireland. This area is of particular interest to botanists and ecologists because of the numerous bird species that nest and visit there. There are also many rare plants that grow there. The Kildare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kildare GAA, is one of 12 county boards governed by the Leinster provincial council of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Kildare The County Board is responsible for preparing the Kildare county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling and camogie.
