Elliot Wilson (journalist)
Elliott Wilson (born January 14, 1971) is an American journalist, television producer, and magazine editor. He is the founder and CEO of ''Rap Radar''. In the past, he has worked as editor-in-chief of ''XXL Magazine''. While there, he became known for his editorials under the nickname "YN". Over the course of his career, Elliott has interviewed and profiled a number of artists, including Jay-Z, Drake, and Mary J. Blige. Early life Elliott Wilson was born January 14, 1971, in Queens, New York. His father is African American and his mother is of Ecuadorian and Greek descent. He attended William Cullen Bryant High School, went on to attend LaGuardia Community College, and received an associate degree in Liberal Arts in 1992. He has two younger brothers, Kenneth and Steven. Writing career Wilson has been writing and talking about hip hop and rap music since 1992, when he became music editor for Beat-Down Newspaper. Museum Of Pop Culture
The Museum of Pop Culture or MoPOP is a nonprofit museum in Seattle, Washington, dedicated to contemporary popular culture. It was founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2000 as the Experience Music Project. Since then MoPOP has organized dozens of exhibits, 17 of which have toured across the U.S. and internationally. The museumformerly known as Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP, SFM) and later EMP Museum until November 2016—has initiated many public programs including "Sound Off!", an annual 21-and-under battle-of-the-bands that supports the all-ages scene; and "Pop Conference", an annual gathering of academics, critics, musicians, and music buffs. Hip-Hop Soul
Hip hop soul is a subgenre of contemporary R&B music, most popular during the early and mid 1990s, which fuses R&B or soul singing with hip hop musical production. The subgenre had evolved from a previous R&B subgenre, new jack swing, which had incorporated hip-hop influences into R&B music. By contrast, hip hop soul is, as described in ''The Encyclopedia of African American Music'', "quite literally soul singing over hip hop grooves". ''Ego Trip'' was a hip hop magazine started in New York City in 1994. It lasted four years and 13 issues and distinguished itself based on its irreverence and defiant attitude, eventually adopting the tagline, "the arrogant voice of musical truth." Description The roots of the publication began with a hip hop newspaper called '' Beat-Down Newspaper'', founded by Haji Akhigbade and Sacha Jenkins in 1992.
