Ellembelle (Ghana Parliament Constituency)
Ellembelle is a parliamentary constituency in Ghana. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah is the member of parliament for the constituency. He was elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with a majority of 1,649 votes. He took over from Freddie Blay, who had represented the constituency on the ticket of the Convention People's Party (CPP). Ellembelle District
Ellembelle District is one of the fourteen districts in Western Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Nzema East District in 1988, which was created from the former Nzema District Council, until the western part of the district was split off by a decree of then-president John Agyekum Kufuor on 29 February 2008 to create Ellembelle District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Nzema East District (which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on that same year to become Nzema East Municipal District). The district assembly is located in the southwest part of Western Region and has Nkroful as its capital town. Western Region, Ghana
The Western Region is located in south Ghana, spreads from the Ivory Coast ( Comoé District) in the west to the Central region in the east, includes the capital and large twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast, coastal Axim, and a hilly inland area including Elubo. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah
Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah (born 1966) is a Ghanaian politician who served in the government of Ghana as Minister of Energy and Petroleum in the John Mahama administration from 2013 to 2016. Buah, a member of the National Democratic Congress, is the Member of Parliament of Ellembelle constituency in the Western Region. He was the Deputy Minority Leader in the Parliament of Ghana after replacing James Klutse Avedzi. Early life and education Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah hails from Atuabo in the Western Region. National Democratic Congress (Ghana)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana, founded by Jerry Rawlings, who was Head of State of Ghana from 1981 to 1993 and the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981, there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992, in which Rawlings was elected president, and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001. The NDC lost the presidency in the 2000 election, and it was not until the 2008 election, that they regained it with John Atta Mills as its candidate. Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay a lawyer, a Ghanaian politician and a member of the Second, Third and Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region of Ghana. Career Blay was also appointed to the position of board chairman for the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). In 2021, he was re-appointed by Nana Akufo-Addo as the board chair of GNPC. Convention People's Party
The Convention People's Party (CPP) is a Socialism, socialist political party in Ghana based on the ideas of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP was formed in June 1949 after Nkrumah broke away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). Nkrumah was the then appointed Secretaty General of the UGCC when he was arrested by the leader of the UGCC and imprisoned for an alleged thought, plans and power against Kwame Nkrumah's leadership. Kwame Nkrumah then formed the Convention People's Party with support of some UGCC members and had a purpose for self governance. This is a list of the 275 constituencies represented in the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, as at the December 2016 general election. It had been increased from 260 at the previous election in December 2012 parliamentary election. Each constituency is represented by a single member of parliament (MP). There were 230 parliamentary constituencies previously. History At the time Ghana became an independent country, there were 104 seats in parliament. This increased to 198 after 1965 when Ghana became a one party state. At the start of the Second Republic in 1969, the number of seats were increased to 140. This did not change further until the start of the Fourth republic when it was increased from 140 to 200. The number of seats was increased following the December 2000 elections.
