Elizabeth Spehar
Elizabeth Spehar is the Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Biography Elizabeth Spehar was born in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay, Ontario), Canada, and has one daughter. She is a graduate of Queen's University in Canada with a Bachelor of Arts. She also holds a master's degree in international affairs from Carleton University and a diploma from the University of Pau in France. For more than 12 years, she worked with the Organization of American States where she was a senior official. Spehar joined the United Nations Department of Political Affairs in 2007. During this time she has held several key positions including Director of the Europe Division and Director for the Americas and Europe Division. United Nations Peacekeeping Force In Cyprus
The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) is a UN peacekeepers, United Nations peacekeeping force that was established under United Nations Security Council Resolution 186 in 1964 to prevent a recurrence of fighting following Cyprus crisis of 1963–64, intercommunal violence between the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, to contribute to the maintenance and restoration of law and order and to facilitate a return to normal conditions. Major General Ingrid Gjerde is the current Force Commander of UNFICYP, appointed in 2021, and preceded by Cheryl Pearce (Australia). Port Arthur, Ontario
Port Arthur was a city in Northern Ontario, Canada, located on Lake Superior. In January 1970, it amalgamated with Fort William and the townships of Neebing and McIntyre to form the city of Thunder Bay. Port Arthur had been the district seat of Thunder Bay District. It is historically notable as a temporary (1882–1885) eastern terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It served as a major transshipment point for lakers that carried cargo to Port Arthur from across the Great Lakes.
