''Elite da Tropa'' is a Brazilian book written by the ex-police officers André Batista and Rodrigo Pimentel together with Luiz Eduardo Soares. It was first published in 2006. Luiz Eduardo Soares (born March 12, 1954 in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro), is a Brazilian anthropologist, philosopher and political scientist. Activities Between 1999 and 2000, Soares coordinated the department of public safety in Rio de Janeiro. Between January and October, 2003, he was the National Secretary of Public Security. Currently, he occupies the post of Secretary of Municipal Valuation of Life and Prevention of Violence at Nova Iguacu (RJ). Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (BOPE) (; literally "Special Police Operations Battalion") or BOPE is the police tactical unit and gendarmerie of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro State (''PMERJ'') in Brazil. Leonel Brizola
Leonel de Moura Brizola (22 January 1922 – 21 June 2004) was a Brazilian politician. Launched into politics by Brazilian president Getúlio Vargas in the 1930–1950s, Brizola was the only politician to serve as elected governor of two Brazilian states. An engineer by training, Brizola organized the youth wing of the Brazilian Labour Party and served as state representative for Rio Grande do Sul and mayor of its capital, Porto Alegre. In 1958 he was elected governor and subsequently played a major role in thwarting a first coup attempt by sectors of the armed forces in 1961, who wished to stop João Goulart from assuming the presidency, under allegations of communist ties.
