Elisapeta Toeava
Elisapeta Toeava (born 1994) is a netball player who was born in Samoa and moved to New Zealand. A player for the Northern Mystics team in Auckland, as of the end of 2021 she had also played three matches for the New Zealand national netball team. Early life Elisapeta Toeava, known as "Peta", was born in Samoa on 10 March 1994. She has nine sisters and two brothers, one of whom is the rugby union player, Isaia Toeava, who played 37 times for the All Blacks. Like her brother, Toeava moved to New Zealand, where she was brought up by her grandmother. She attended McAuley High School in Ōtāhuhu, a suburb of Auckland. Grace Nweke
Grace Nweke is a New Zealand netball international. She first competed for New Zealand in September 2021, becoming the fourth person of African descent to play for the team, following in the footsteps of Irene Van Dyk, Leana de Bruin and Karin Burger, all born in South Africa. Early life Grace Nweke was born in Auckland on 7 February 2002, to parents who emigrated to New Zealand from Nigeria. She has a twin brother and four other siblings. Her parents initially left Nigeria to go to South Korea, before settling in Auckland in the 1990s. She attended ACG Sunderland from years 9 to 10 then transferred to Avondale College. At Avondale College she competed in high jump events as well as netball. Nweke is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce degree in information systems and marketing at the University of Auckland. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. In team sports, a most valuable player award, abbreviated 'MVP award', is an honor typically bestowed upon an individual (or individuals, in the instance of a tie) whose individual performance is the greatest in an entire league, for a particular competition, or on a specific team. The purpose of the award is recognize the contribution of the individual's efforts amongst a group effort, and to highlight the excellence, exemplariness, and/or outstandingness of a player's performance amidst the performance of their peers in question. The term can have different connotations depending on the context in which it is used.
