Elisapeta Heta
Elisapeta Hinemoa Heta is a New Zealand Māori architect. She is affiliated to the Ngāti Wai and Waikato Tainui iwi (tribes). She also has Samoan and Tokelauan heritage. Heta was the recipient of a National Association of Women in Construction (New Zealand) Excellence Award in 2018. Biography Heta grew up in a small cottage in Rānui, West Auckland, and later in Te Atatu North, which became Te Atatu Peninsula. Her mother was a school caretaker and cleaner, and her father was a security guard. She attended Ranui Primary School, Te Atatu Peninsula Primary School, Te Atatu Intermediate School and Rutherford College. She enrolled to study architecture at the University of Auckland in 2007, and went on to complete two master's degrees: one in architecture and another in museums and cultural heritage. Elisapeta Toeava (born 1994) is a netball player who was born in Samoa and moved to New Zealand. A player for the Northern Mystics team in Auckland, as of the end of 2021 she had also played three matches for the New Zealand national netball team. Early life Elisapeta Toeava, known as "Peta", was born in Samoa on 10 March 1994. She has nine sisters and two brothers, one of whom is the rugby union player, Isaia Toeava, who played 37 times for the All Blacks. Like her brother, Toeava moved to New Zealand, where she was brought up by her grandmother. She attended McAuley High School in Ōtāhuhu, a suburb of Auckland. Netball career A member of the New Zealand Secondary Schools team, which beat Australia, Toeava was recruited by the Northern Mystics in 2013 while she was still at school and playing for the Carlton United team. Elisapeta 'Peta' Tuupo‐Alaimaleata is an American-Samoan educator. Tuupo‐Alaimaleata was born and raised in Samoa. She has a master's degree in education from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Tuupo‐Alaimaleata began her career in education as a classroom teacher in American Samoa. She then worked for the University of Hawaii’s Manoa teacher training program as a teacher coordinator. She has also worked on a number of literacy development and community empowerment projects at the university. Tuupo‐Alaimaleata has a history of working with the wider Samoan community to promote Samoan heritage, language, and culture. While teaching Samoan at the First Samoan Methodist Church in Salt Lake she saw the need for a more established language school and so founded the Le Fetuao Samoan Language Center in Honolulu.
