Elio Guarisco
Elio Guarisco (August 5, 1954 - November 27, 2020) was an Italian writer, translator and Tibetan Buddhist scholar and Dzogchen practitioner, member of the International Dzogchen Community. Life Guarisco was born in Varese, Italy. After spending his formative years in Como, he went on to study art and receive a Master of Arts before traveling to India to study Buddhism. In the early 1970s, he studied under the auspices of several Theravada leaders in India including Satya Narayan Goenka. He later studied Buddhist philosophy in a Tibetan monastery in Switzerland for ten years, after which he was invited by Kalu Rinpoche to work as a translator in Sonada, India and where he stayed for twenty years. In the meantime he had met in Italy his teacher Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, becoming an active member of the Dzogchen community in 1986. Dzogchen
Dzogchen (, "Great Perfection" or "Great Completion"), also known as ''atiyoga'' ( utmost yoga), is a tradition of teachings in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism and Yungdrung Bon aimed at discovering and continuing in the ultimate ground of existence. The primordial ground (''gzhi'', "basis") is said to have the qualities of purity (i.e. emptiness), spontaneity (''lhun grub'', associated with luminous clarity) and compassion (''thugs rje''). The goal of Dzogchen is knowledge of this basis, this knowledge is called ''rigpa'' (Skt. ''vidyā''). There are numerous spiritual practices taught in the various Dzogchen systems for awakening rigpa. Semde
Semde (; Sanskrit: ) translated as 'mind division', 'mind class' or 'mind series' is the name of one of three scriptural and lineage divisions within Atiyoga, Dzogchen or the Great Perfection which is itself the pinnacle of the ninefold division of practice according to the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. Semde emphasizes the clarity (''gsal-ba'') or the innate awareness ( rig-pa) aspect of the Natural State. Due to the different approaches of various Dzogchen lineages, three series have developed of which ''semde'' is one. The other two divisions or series are Longdé (Space Series) and Menngagde (Instruction Series). Tibetan Buddhists
Tibetan Buddhism (also referred to as Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, Lamaism, Lamaistic Buddhism, Himalayan Buddhism, and Northern Buddhism) is the form of Buddhism practiced in Tibet and Bhutan, where it is the dominant religion. Yantra Yoga
''Trul khor'' ('magical instrument' or 'magic circle;' Skt. ), in full ''tsa lung trul khor'' ( sa, vayv-adhisāra 'magical movement instrument, channels and inner breath currents'), also known as yantra yoga, is a Vajrayana discipline which includes pranayama (breath control) and body postures ( asanas). From the perspective of the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist traditions of Dzogchen, the mind is merely ''vāyu'' (breath) in the body. Thus working with ''vāyu'' and the body is paramount, while meditation, on the other hand, is considered contrived and conceptual. Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche (1938-2018), a proponent of trul khor, preferred to use the equivalent Sanskrit-derived English term 'yantra yoga' when writing in English.
