Elie Ferzli
Elie Ferzli ( ar, إيلي الفرزلي; born 22 November 1949 in Zahle, Lebanon) is a Lebanese and Eastern Orthodox Christian politician. He served as Information Minister and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon in the early 2000s. He was succeeded by as deputy speaker Farid Makari in 2005. He expressed pro-Syrian sentiments during the Cedar Revolution. The Cedar Revolution ( ar, ثورة الأرز, ''thawrat al-arz'') or Independence Uprising ( ar, انتفاضة الاستقلال, ''intifāḍat al-istiqlāl'') was a chain of demonstrations in Lebanon (especially in the capital Beirut) triggered by the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri. The popular movement was remarkable for its avoidance of violence, peaceful approach, and its total reliance on methods of civil resistance. The primary goals of the activists were the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon and the replacement of a government heavily influenced by Syrian interests with more independent leadership, the establishment of an international commission to investigate the assassination of Prime Minister Hariri, the resignation of security officials to ensure the success of the plan, and the organization of free parliamentary elections. Farid Makari
Farid Nabil Makari (; 24 October 1947 – 17 August 2022) was a Lebanese politician. Early life and education Makari was born in Anfeh on 24 October 1947. He graduated from University of Texas at Austin in civil engineering and joined Oger Saudi and Oger International, companies founded by the former Lebanese prime minister, Rafik Hariri. Career In 1992, Makari entered politics, winning the Eastern Orthodox parliamentary seat in the district of Koura. Makari was re-elected in 1996, 2000, 2005 and 2009. Between 1995–1996, Makari was appointed Information Minister in the Government of Rafik Hariri. The Lebanese Parliament ( ar, مجلس النواب, translit=Majlis an-Nuwwab; french: Chambre des députés) is the national parliament of the Republic of Lebanon. There are 128 members elected to a four-year term in multi-member constituencies, apportioned among Lebanon's diverse Christian and Muslim denominations but with half of the seats reserved for Christians and half reserved to Muslims per Constitutional Article 24.
