Elicio Argüelles Menocal
Elicio Argüelles y García–Menocal (Elicio Argüelles II or Elicio Argüelles Jr.) was a Cuban exile and politician—one of the last of the Cuban senators elected to office before the Communist Revolution. His father was Elicio Argüelles Pozo. He, and his father met Ernest Hemingway at a Jai alai game in Havana, and they became family friends. Argüelles' father owned the Frontón Jai Alai, the largest Jai Alai arena in Hanava. In Cuba during World War II, Argüelles was instrumental in the FBI effort to hunt Nazis in Latin America, and was involved in some way with Hemingway's anti-submarine missions. In the late 1950s, he had become one of Hemingway's five closest friends, alongside his cousin, Mario Menocal. His daughter is Rosario Kennedy. The Congress of Cuba () was the legislature of Cuba from 20 May 1902 until the Cuban Revolution of 1959. The Congress consisted of the 130-member Chamber of Representatives (''Cámara de Representantes'') and the 54-member Senate (''Senado'') in December 1958. The first Cuban Congress met for the first time on May 5, 1902. Generally, Congress held at least two sessions during a given year. A Cuban exile is a person who has been exiled from Cuba. Many Cuban exiles have various differing experiences as emigrants depending on when they emigrated from Cuba, and why they emigrated. Mario García Menocal
Aurelio Mario Gabriel Francisco García Menocal y Deop (December 17, 1866 – September 7, 1941) was the 3rd President of Cuba, serving from 1913 to 1921. His term as president saw Cuba's participation in the Allies in World War I. Early life and education Menocal was born on December 17, 1866, in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, in Spanish Cuba. At 13-years-old, he was sent to boarding schools in the United States, where he attended Chappaqua Mountain Institute in Chappaqua, New York and then Maryland State College of Agriculture, which was later renamed the University of Maryland, College Park in College Park, Maryland. Jai Alai
Jai alai ( : ) is a Basque sport involving bouncing a ball off a walled-in space by accelerating it to high speeds with a hand-held wicker, commonly referred to as a ''cesta''. It is a variation of Basque pelota. The term ''jai alai'', coined by Serafin Baroja in 1875, is also often loosely applied to the fronton (the open-walled playing area) where matches take place. Elicio Argüelles y Pozo was a Cuban Senator and President of the Senate. During the Spanish Civil War, he was the president of the Comité Nacionalista Español (CNE), a Cuban organization dedicated to the Carlist and Falangist ideologies of the Nationalist faction.''''
