Division Of Adelaide
The Division of Adelaide is an Australian electoral division in South Australia and is named for the city of Adelaide, South Australia's capital. At the 2016 federal election, the electorate covered 76 km², is centred on the Adelaide city centre and spanning from Grand Junction Road in the north to Cross Road in the south and from Portrush Road in the east to Marion and Holbrooks Road in the west, taking in suburbs including Ashford, Enfield, Goodwood, Kent Town, Keswick, Kilburn, Mansfield Park, Maylands, Northgate, Norwood, Parkside, Prospect, Rose Park, St Peters, Toorak Gardens, Torrensville, Thebarton, Unley and Walkerville. Andrew Jones (Australian Politician)
Andrew Thomas Jones (26 May 1944 – 2 December 2015) was an Australian politician. He became one of the youngest ever Australian federal Members of Parliament when he was elected to the Division of Adelaide on 26 November 1966, aged just 22 years and 184 days. At that time, only Edwin Corboy had been elected at a younger age, but that record has since been broken by Wyatt Roy. Born in Adelaide, Jones studied at the University of Adelaide and was working as a travel officer when he gained Liberal and Country League (LCL) preselection for the apparently safe Labor seat of Adelaide for the 1966 federal election. Although the election came at a bad time for Labor at both the federal and state level, few gave Jones any chance of winning. However, much to the surprise of everyone except Jones, he defeated Labor incumbent Joe Sexton. Steve Georganas
Steven Georganas (born 13 June 1959) is an Australian politician and is the Australian Labor Party member for the House of Representatives seat of Adelaide in South Australia since the 2019 Australian federal election. Previously, he had been the member for Hindmarsh from 2004 to 2013 and again from 2016 to 2019. Background Georganas was born in Adelaide of Greek parents. He gained a Business Studies Certificate at a TAFE college and worked as a taxi driver, an assembly-line worker in a factory, and an underwriter. He worked as a ministerial adviser to South Australian government minister Jay Weatherill from 2002 to 2004. Political career Elections Georganas was the Labor Party candidate for Hindmarsh at the 1998 federal election and the 2001 federal election, but was unsuccessful on both occasions. Katherine Margaret Ellis (born 22 September 1977) is a former Australian politician, who represented the Division of Adelaide in the Australian House of Representatives for the Australian Labor Party from 2004 until 2019. She served in multiple portfolios in the outer ministry of the 2007–2013 federal Labor government and was in the shadow cabinet after that. In March 2017 Ellis announced that she would step down from shadow cabinet as of the next reshuffle and leave parliament at the 2019 federal election. Early life and career Ellis was born in Melbourne and grew up in rural South Australia in the Murray River town of Mannum where her mother worked as a teacher at the local primary school. Patricia Mary Worth (born 21 April 1946), Australian politician, is a former Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives from March 1993 to October 2004, representing the Division of Adelaide, South Australia. She was born in Riverton, South Australia, and was a registered nurse and midwife and a manager in health administration before entering politics. Worth was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Family Services 1997–98 and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs 1998–2001, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Aging from November 2001 to October 2004. Mike Pratt (politician)
Michael Philip Pratt (born 10 February 1948) is a former Australian politician. A member of the Liberal Party, he was elected to the House of Representatives at the 1988 Adelaide by-election. He served until his defeat at the 1990 federal election. Early life Pratt was born on 10 February 1948 in Blyth, South Australia. Prior to entering politics he worked as a farmer and from 1984 as a marketing executive with the Norwood Football Club. He joined the Burra branch of the Young Liberals in 1970. Parliament Pratt was elected to the House of Representatives at the 1988 Adelaide by-election, which followed the resignation of the incumbent Australian Labor Party (ALP) member Chris Hurford to take up a diplomatic post. In parliament he served on the standing committee on the Parliamentary Library. He was defeated for re-election at the 1990 federal election by the ALP candidate Bob Catley.
