Electoral District Of Landsborough
Landsborough was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1950 to 1992. The district was based on the Sunshine Coast. Landsborough was first created for the 1950 state election out of the districts of Murrumba and Stanley, the latter of which was abolished. The district was won by then Country Party leader Frank Nicklin, hitherto the member for Murrumba. Nicklin went on to serve as Premier of Queensland from 1957 to 1968. He retired at the 1972 state election and was succeeded by fellow Country Party candidate Mike Ahern. Ahern would also go on to become Queensland Premier from 1987 to 1989. Ahern retired in 1990, triggering a by-election that was won by Liberal Party candidate Joan Sheldon. Like her two predecessors, Sheldon became leader of her party, assuming the role in 1991. Landsborough is a town and a locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. At the , Landsborough had a population of 4,446 people. Geography Landsborough is in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It is situated north of the Glasshouse Mountains just off Steve Irwin Way, north of Brisbane at the base of the southern end of the Blackall Range. The North Coast railway line enters the locality from the south ( Beerwah), passes through the town in the west of the locality, and then exits the locality to the north-west (Mooloolah Valley). The town is served by Landsborough railway station (). The Bruce Highway passes along the eastern boundary of the locality. Glass House Mountains Road (Steve Irwin Way) passes through from south to north-east, and the Landsborough–Maleny Road exits to the north-west. Joan Sheldon
Joan Mary Sheldon (born 29 April 1943) is an Australian politician. She was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1990 to 2004, representing the electorates of Landsborough (1990–1992) and then Caloundra (1992–2004). She was the state Liberal leader from 1991 to 1998, and served as Deputy Premier in the Borbidge government from 1996 to 1998. Early life Sheldon was born in Bundaberg, Queensland, and attended St Bernadette's Primary School and Soubirous College. She studied physiotherapy at the University of Queensland and subsequently studied for a time at Trinity College London. Sheldon operated a physiotherapy practice in Brisbane from 1978 to 1984, when she moved to Caloundra. Electoral District Of Nicklin
Nicklin is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate is centred in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and stretches north to Black Mountain, south to Palmwoods and Montville, and west to Kenilworth, including Conondale National Park. It includes notable localities such as Nambour, Yandina, Cooroy, Bli Bli, Mapleton and Woombye. The seat is currently held by Robert Skelton of the Labor Party. In 2020 he succeeded LNP member Marty Hunt, who had only served one term in office. Prior to the election of Hunt, Nicklin was held by long serving Independent member, Peter Wellington. Electoral District Of Caloundra
Caloundra is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district on the Sunshine Coast in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate is centred on the city of Caloundra and stretches north to Wurtulla, south to Pelican Waters and west to the Bruce Highway. The seat was held by Mark McArdle, the first deputy leader of the Liberal National Party from 2008 to 2009, and prior to that state Liberal leader from November 2007 to July 2008. McArdle succeeded former Liberal leader Joan Sheldon upon her retirement in 2004. On 27 June 2019, McArdle announced he would retire from politics at the 2020 state election. 1992 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 19 September 1992 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party led by Wayne Goss was reelected for a second term with a strong majority government. The election effectively confirmed the status quo, although the ALP lost a small percentage of votes and four seats. Three of those were new seats which were nominally Labor following the redistribution. This was the first election in many decades in which a zonal system of electoral representation did not exist. The previous parliament had legislated for a "one vote one value" electoral redistribution, in which almost all the 89 electoral districts were to have similar numbers of electors (within a 10% margin of the mean).
