Electoral District Of Butler
Butler is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. The district is named for the outer northern Perth suburb of Butler which falls within its borders. Geography Coming into effect after the 2013 election, the boundaries of Butler stretch from the coastal boundary of the City of Wanneroo to its northern and eastern limits, and comprised 546 km² of land otherwise bounded in the south by the Kinross east-west boundary fence, Burns Beach Road, Wanneroo Road, Flynn Drive, Old Yanchep Road and Neaves Road. Its boundaries included the outposts of Yanchep and Two Rocks, the populated suburbs of Butler, Jindalee, Clarkson, Merriwa and Ridgewood, the semi-rural localities of Carabooda, Neerabup, Nowergup, the growing locality of Alkimos and the largely unpopulated localities of Eglinton and Pinjar. John Quigley (politician)
John Robert Quigley (born 1 December 1948) is an Australian barrister, solicitor and politician in Western Australia. A member of the ALP, he has served as a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from the 2001 election until the present, initially as the Member for Innaloo (2001–2005) until that seat's abolition in an electoral redistribution, then as the Member for Mindarie (2005-2013) until that seat's abolition in an electoral redistribution and is currently the Member for Butler. , he is the state's Attorney-General and Minister for Electoral Affairs in the second McGowan ministry after holding the position of Attorney General and Minister for Commerce in the McGowan Ministry. Merriwa, Western Australia
Merriwa is a coastal, northern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, north of the central business district. It is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area. It is a predominantly residential suburb, containing two RAAF retirement villages. History Name The name "Hester" was originally approved for the suburb by the Shire of Wanneroo in 1980, after Thomas Hester, one of the first land owners in the vicinity. The neighbouring suburbs of Clarkson and Butler were also named this way. However, the name was opposed by Australia Post due to conflict with the existing town of Hester in south-west WA. "Merriwa", an Aboriginal word meaning "a good place", was then proposed and approved for the area within the same year. Electoral District Of Ocean Reef
Ocean Reef was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It was located in Perth's northern suburbs, and was named after the suburb of Ocean Reef. History Ocean Reef was created at the 2007 redistribution out of most of the Mindarie electorate and parts of Joondalup and Hillarys. Its creation reflected both the growth of the City of Wanneroo region which now required three full electorates (Wanneroo, Mindarie and Girrawheen), and the increase in the number of metropolitan seats in accordance with the new one vote one value legislation. Ocean Reef was a notional Labor seat upon its creation, but was one of a number of marginal seats that fell to the Liberal Party at the 2008 election. Mindarie, Western Australia
Mindarie is an outer coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is located 36 kilometres (22 mi) north of Perth's central business district, and forms part of the City of Wanneroo local government area. After being briefly used for its limestone deposits in the early 20th century, the suburb was formally established in 1988 with the construction of the Mindarie Marina and hotel, one of the largest man-made marina resorts in the state. Several shops, restaurants and schools are now dispersed throughout the rest of the area, which is primarily residential in character. A number of large bushland reserves and parks preserve Mindarie's previously natural state, such as its large coastal dunes. Hester Avenue (previously known as Quinns Road) is an east-west distributor road in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Wanneroo. It primarily links the coastal suburbs of the Clarkson- Butler region to the arterial highway Wanneroo Road in the east, and is the current (as of August 2017) northern terminus of the Mitchell Freeway. The road begins as a four-lane dual carriageway at Wanneroo Road, before intersecting with the Mitchell Freeway at Clarkson in the form of an elongated dogbone roundabout separated by a bridge crossing the Joondalup railway line. The road terminates at a roundabout with Marmion Avenue, where it becomes Anchorage Drive North, a local distributor road in the suburb of Mindarie. Pinjar is a rural locality in Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Wanneroo. History The suburb of Pinjar is named after the large swampy lake of this name located north east of Wanneroo. The lake name is shown on government plans from 1868, and the name is of Noongar origin. The meaning of Pinjar is unknown, but could be "tadpole" or "swampy lake". Geography Pinjar is bounded by Pinjar Road/Old Yanchep Road to the west and Neaves Road to the south. Eglinton is a locality in the Western Australian capital city of Perth, approximately north of Perth's central business district on the Indian Ocean. For the most part, the suburb is covered in native banksia woodland, scrubland and heath typical of the Swan Coastal Plain. Alkimos is a coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located north-northwest of Perth's central business district. It is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area. Nowergup is a rural locality about north of Perth, Western Australia. It is in the local government area of the City of Wanneroo. History The suburb of Nowergup (sometimes spelled Nowgerup in earlier documents) takes its name from Lake Nowergup. The lake name was first recorded by Surveyor General John Septimus Roe in 1841, and is a Noongar word which possibly means "place of sweet water". It was approved as a suburb name in 1982.
