Electoral District Of Brisbane Central
Brisbane Central was an electoral division in the state of Queensland, Australia. The electorate covered the central portion of Brisbane, including the Brisbane central business district as well as the inner suburbs of Bowen Hills, Fortitude Valley, Herston, Kelvin Grove, Spring Hill, New Farm, Newmarket and Windsor. It is bordered on the east and south by the Brisbane River. History The Town of Brisbane was one of the original electorates established by Order-in-Council in 1859. Since then, the name of the electorate covering what is now the CBD of Brisbane has been variously known as Brisbane City, North Brisbane, Brisbane North and Brisbane (from 1912). Brisbane Central was created in 1977 and was held from 1989 to 2007 by Labor's Peter Beattie, who was Premier of Queensland from 1998. Brisbane Central Business District
Brisbane City is the central suburb and central business district of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is colloquially referred to as the "Brisbane CBD" or "the city". It is located on a point on the northern bank of the Brisbane River, historically known as ''Meanjin'', ''Mianjin'' or ''Meeanjin'' in the local Aboriginal Australian dialect. The triangular shaped area is bounded by the median of the Brisbane River to the east, south and west. The point, known at its tip as Gardens Point, slopes upward to the north-west where the city is bounded by parkland and the inner city suburb of Spring Hill to the north. The CBD is bounded to the north-east by the suburb of Fortitude Valley. To the west the CBD is bounded by Petrie Terrace, which in 2010 was reinstated as a suburb (after being made a locality of Brisbane City in the 1970s). Brisbane North was an Queensland Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district which elected two members to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in the Australian state of Queensland from 1888 until 1912. Antony Green
Antony John Green (born 2 March 1960) is an Australian psephologist and commentator. He is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's chief election analyst. Early years and background Born in Warrington, Lancashire, in northern England, Green emigrated to Australia with his family in 1964. He attended James Ruse Agricultural High School in Sydney, graduating in 1977. Green graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computing, and a Bachelor of Economics with honours in politics from the University of Sydney. He worked initially as a data analyst in the computing industry and for a polling company before joining the ABC in 1989. Green recalls he saw an ad for a six-month position as an ABC election researcher and applied, along with 150 other applicants. The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. Brian Davis (politician)
Brian John Davis (7 July 1934 – 31 August 2018) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1969 to 1974 and from 1977 to 1989. He was born in Toowoomba to Richard Davis and Constance Mary, ''née'' Quinlan. He attended Catholic schools, and worked as a van salesman, a taxi proprietor, a truck driver and a taxi driver before entering politics. As an official with the Transport Workers Union, he was a member of the Labor Party, serving as president of the Fortitude Valley branch and state president of the Young Labor Association (1963). In 1969 he was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the member for Brisbane. In 1972 he was promoted to the front bench as Shadow Minister for Welfare, Sport and Tourism. McConnel is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in the 2017 redistribution as essentially a reconfigured version of Brisbane Central. It covers the Brisbane CBD, as well as the suburbs of Kelvin Grove, Herston, Bowen Hills, Newstead, Teneriffe, Fortitude Valley, Spring Hill, Petrie Terrace and New Farm. It is named after Mary McConnel, one of Queensland's early European settlers, who came to Queensland in 1849. With her husband David McConnel, they ran the Cressbrook pastoral station. Mary McConnel was a close friend of Diamantina Bowen, the wife of the first Queensland Governor George Bowen, and together with a committee of ladies, they embarked on a program of building hospitals for women and children, such as the Lady Bowen Hospital which provided maternity services. Ignazia Graziella "Grace" Grace (née Farfaglia; born 12 August 1958) is an Australian politician from the state of Queensland. She has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for the seat of McConnel and its predecessor seat, Brisbane Central, for all but two years since 2007. She is a member of the Labor Party. Grace was born in Brisbane, Queensland, the daughter of an Italian migrant cane cutter. She was an industrial relations advisor to the Keating Government until 1995 when she was elected as assistant general secretary, and in 2000 the first female general secretary, of the Queensland Council of Unions. A state by-election was held in Queensland on 13 October 2007 to fill the vacancy in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district of Brisbane Central, formerly held by Labor member and former Premier Peter Beattie, who resigned on 14 September 2007.
