Elaine Ratcliffe
Elaine Ratcliffe (born November 1972) is an English amateur golfer. She won the 1998 English Women's Amateur Championship. She played in the Curtis Cup in 1996 and 1998 and was the non-playing captain in 2021 and 2022. Golf career In 1990 Ratcliffe represented England in the Girls Home Internationals at Penrith. The following year she had two rounds of 72 in the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Long Ashton, to lead after 36 holes, but fell away badly on the final day. From 1991 to 1995 she attended the University of Stirling, having obtained a golf scholarship there. In 1995, having obtained her degree, she won the English Ladies' Golf Association's Silver Tee award for successfully combining golf with education. Ratcliffe first came to prominence in 1995. Crewe
Crewe () is a railway town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. The Women's Amateur Championship, previously known as the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship, was founded in 1893 by the Ladies' Golf Union. It is organised by The R&A, which merged with the Ladies' Golf Union in 2017. Fiona Mary Haddon Brown (later Champness, born 13 February 1974) was an English amateur golfer. She won the 1994 English Women's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the 1999 English Women's Amateur Championship. She played in the Curtis Cup in 1998 and 2000. Vagliano Trophy
The Vagliano Trophy is a biennial women's amateur golf tournament. It is co-organised by The R&A and the European Golf Association and is contested by teams representing "Great Britain and Ireland" and the "Continent of Europe". It is played in odd-numbered years; the Curtis Cup being played in even-numbered years. The event started in 1931 as a match between Great Britain and France. It was played annually from 1931 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1949, before becoming a biennial event from 1949 to 1957. Britain won 15 of the 16 matches with the 1934 match being tied. From 1949 to 1957 Great Britain had also played a biennial match against Belgium. The 1997 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 9–13 July at Nordcenter Golf & Country Club in Åminnefors, Finland. It was the 20th women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1988. Its first course, the Fream course, situated in Åminnefors, close to Pohja in the province of Southern Finland and part of the Uusimaa region, 70 kilometres west of Helsinki, Finland, was designed by architect Ronald Fream. The course meanders across a varied landscape from a lush seashore towards a forest plateau full of steep elevation changes and the old park area of a manor house. Karen Margrethe Juul
Karen Margrethe Juul (born 23 December 1975) is a Danish professional golfer. Amateur career Juul was born in Esbjerg, Denmark. She practically grew up on the golf course, her mother a national team player, and started training golf at 9 years old. Aged 14, she made her debut at the club's division team, and by 18 years old she participated in her first women's European Championship. The following year she won her first Danish championship in stroke play and two years after that, in 1997, won the Danish championships both in stroke and match play. The 1996 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 7–10 November at St. Elena Golf Club in Manila, Philippines. It was the 17th women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a stroke play team event, due to heavy rain, shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes. There were 34 team entries, each with three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The South Korea team won the Trophy for their first title, beating team Italy by two strokes. Italy earned the silver medal while the defending champions United States took the bronze on third place another four strokes back.
