El Mestizo
"El Mestizo" is a British comic war story published in the weekly anthology ''Battle Picture Weekly'' from 4 June to 17 September 1977 by IPC Magazines. Set during the American Civil War, the story follows a mestizo slave turned mercenary returning from Mexico to America in 1862. The story was written by Alan Hebden and drawn by Carlos Ezquerra. Creation Since starting work on ''Battle Picture Weekly'' on the strips "Rat Pack" and "Major Eazy", Carlos Ezquerra had rapidly become one of the comic's most popular artists by 1977. He was much in demand elsewhere, working with Pat Mills and John Wagner on designing Judge Dredd for new science fiction weekly title '' 2000 AD''. ''Battle'' editor Dave Hunt wanted to keep Ezquerra, and assigned Alan Hebden - who had worked with the artist on "Major Eazy" - to create a story, especially for the artist, coming up with "El Mestizo". Battle Picture Weekly
''Battle Picture Weekly'', at various times also known as ''Battle Action'', ''Battle Action Force'', ''Battle'' and ''Battle with Storm Force'', was a British war comic book magazine published by IPC Magazines from (issues dates) 8 March 1975 to 23 January 1988, when it merged with the new incarnation of ''Eagle''. Most stories were set in World War II, with some based on other conflicts. A notable feature of the comic, suited to its era of circulation, was its letters page with readers sending in stories of their fathers' and grandfathers' exploits during the First World War and the Second World War, often in an effort to win a nominal star letter prize. Rebellion Developments Limited is a British video game developer based in Oxford, England. Founded by Jason and Chris Kingsley in December 1992, the company is best known for its ''Sniper Elite'' series and multiple games in the ''Alien vs. Predator'' series. Treasury of British Comics is a line of comic book collections published by Rebellion Developments, collecting British comics stories from the libraries of Amalgamated Press/Fleetway Publications/IPC Magazines. ''Starlord'' was a short-lived weekly British science fiction comic book magazine published by IPC in 1978 as a sister title to '' 2000 AD'', which had been launched the previous year in anticipation of a science fiction boom surrounding ''Star Wars''. ''Starlord'' was planned as a fortnightly title for older readers, with longer stories and higher production values than ''2000 AD'' and the rest of the IPC boys' comics stable, but this proved too ambitious. Episodes were shortened, the number of colour pages was reduced, although the better quality paper and printing were retained, and ''Starlord'' was published weekly at a higher cover price than ''2000 AD''. ''Strontium Dog'' was a long-running British comics series starring Johnny Alpha, a mutant bounty hunter who lives in Earth's future. The series was created in 1978 by writer John Wagner (under the pseudonym T. B. Grover) and artist Carlos Ezquerra for '' Starlord'', a short-lived weekly science fiction comic. When ''Starlord'' was cancelled, the series transferred to the British science fiction weekly '' 2000 AD''. In 1980, Wagner was joined by co-writer Alan Grant, although scripts were normally credited to Grant alone. Grant wrote the series by himself from 1988 to 1990. Wagner revived the series after a ten year hiatus in 2000.
