El Hadj Menouar
Hadj Menouar (1913 – November 4, 1971) was an Algerian singer. Biography Born in the Casbah of Algiers, he came from a modest family native of Ain Assila ( Bordj Menaïel). Hadj Menouar, whose real name was Menouar Kerar, had to get to work early to support his family. Deprived of instruction, he couldn't read or write, but he was endowed by a phenomenal memory. Storing hundreds of Qasidas even the longest, he quickly became a veritable encyclopedia. He became interested in music at a very young age and was encouraged by Mohamed K'hioudji, Hadj M'rizek half-brother. He learned everything that he heard from the masters of his time such as Mustapha Driouech, Kouider Ben Smail, EI-Ounnas Khmissa, Said Laaouar, Cheikh Saidi and more. Pathé Records was an international record company and label and producer of phonographs, based in France, and active from the 1890s through the 1930s. Early years The Pathé record business was founded by brothers Charles and Émile Pathé, then owners of a successful bistro in Paris. Mostaganem ( ber, Mustɣanem; ar, مستغانم) is a port city in and capital of Mostaganem province, in the northwest of Algeria. Khelifa Belkacem (1907 – November 4, 1951) was an Algerian singer. Biography Khelifa Belkacem was born in 1907 in Koléa. His family moved to Staouéli near Algiers in 1911. At the age of nine he becomes fatherless. In 1935 he moves to Algiers which then housed prestigious names of the chaâbi ''chanson'' like El Hadj M'Hamed El Anka. He had learned the music profession in the streets of Staouéli. He wanted to compete with the giants of the era: El Hadj Menouar, Hadj Bouchiba, Hadj M'rizek and succeeded by starting up a young band to enliven family celebrations around Algiers. To penetrate into the middle of chaâbi he left Staouéli to install at the Casbah where work did not lack but where the public was difficult. El Hadj M'Hamed El Anka ( ar, الحاج محمد العنقة}), (May 20, 1907 in Algiers – November 23, 1978 in Algiers) also known as Hadj Muhammed Al Anka, El-Hadj M'Hamed El Anka (and various other combinations), was considered a Grand Master of Andalusian classical music and Algerian chaâbi music. Early life He was born on May 20, 1907, under the name Ait Ouarab Mohamed Idir Halo, on 4 Rue Tombouctou in the Casbah of Algiers. His family, Ait Ouarab, were originally from Taguersift near to Freha in Greater Kabylia; his father was Mohamed Ben Hadj Saîd, and his mother was Fatma Bent Boudjemaâ.
