Ekta (film)
Ekta is a 1942 Sindhi film directed by Homi Wadia and produced by his Wadia Studios in Bombay. This black and white film was the first film in Sindhi and was financed by Karim Bux Nizamani. It starred Nizamani and Kaushalya in the lead roles and was about Hindu–Muslim unity. Its premier at the Taj Mahal Cinema in Karachi was inaugurated by the then Premier of Sindh, Allah Bux Soomro, but the film ran in theatres for only two weeks due to trade restrictions incurring significant losses for Wadia. Production This film was directed by Homi Wadia and produced by Ram Panjwani. It was financed by Karim Bux Nizamani who was the hero of this film. Nizamani was not only a film actor, he was also a writer, social worker and a landlord of Matli in Sindh. His autobiography "Kayee" is one of the best autobiographies in Sindhi. Homi Wadia
Homi Wadia (22 May 1911 – 10 December 2004) was an Indian film director and producer in Bollywood (Hindi cinema). He was the co-founder of Wadia Movietone productions, established in 1933 and later after the closure of Wadiatone, he founded Basant Pictures in 1942. In a career spanning five decades, he directed over 40 films, including ''Hunterwali'' (1935), ''Miss Frontier Mail'' (1936), '' Diamond Queen'' (1940), Shri Ram Bhakta Hanuman(1948) and fantasy film ''Hatim Tai'' (1956). He was also a founding member of the Film & Television Producers Guild of India, established in 1954. Homi Wadia was married to actress and stunt woman Fearless Nadia. Sindhi Cinema
Sindhi cinema ( sd, سنڌي سينيما) refers to the Sindhi language film industry in Sindh, Pakistan and among the Sindhi diaspora. History The first Sindhi film produced was ''Ekta'' in 1940 directed by Homi Wadia and the last film was Himmath which was released on 1997; while the first Sindhi film produced in Pakistan was ''Umar Marvi'' in 1956 directed by Shaikh Hassan. The first blockbuster Sindhi film released was ''Abana'' released in 1958. Sindhi cinema used to see three to four releases a year until the 1990s. The last Sindhi film released was Himmat in 1997. Issues Satish Anand says that the condition of the theatres is bad, funding is difficult and people prefer mainstream cinema. Many producers have tried to revive the industry but eventually it fell apart. Khialdas Fani
Khialdas Fani (4 April 1914 - 8 April 1995) was an Indian writer, poet, stage artist and singer who wrote in Sindhi. He also served as vice-chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Sindhi Sahitya Academy. Biography Khialdas was born on 4 April 1914 at Mian Jo Goth, near Shikarpur, Sindh (now in Pakistan). His father's name was Valiram Begwani. He went to school in the village and then gained further education in Shikarpur. In India, he served as professor at Bhopal College and retired in 1973. Recognizing his service for education and literature, the Bhopal Government appointed him as a lifetime principal of the college. In Bhopal, Fani served as convener of the textbook committee, vice-president of the Provincial Academy, and member of the Central Literary Academy. ''Encyclopedia Sindhiana'' ( sd, انسائيڪلوپيڊيا سنڌيانا), published by the Sindhi Language Authority, is a general knowledge encyclopedia specially covering a wide range of information regarding Sindh. A total of fifteen volumes are planned to be published. Eleven volumes have been published so far. About eighty percent of the content is about Sindh, while the rest covers different important topics relating to the world and universe. Kathak
Kathak ( hi, कथक; ur, کتھک) is one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. It is the classical dance from of Uttar Pradesh. The origin of Kathak is traditionally attributed to the traveling bards in ancient northern India known as Kathakars or storytellers. The term Kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word which means "story", and ''Kathakar'' which means "the one who tells a story", or "to do with stories". Lachhu Maharaj
Pandit Bajinath Prasad also known as Pandit Lachhu Maharaj (1901–1978) was an Indian classical dancer and choreographer of Kathak dance. He came from a family of illustrious Kathak exponents in Lucknow, and also worked as film choreographer, Hindi cinema, most notably ''Mughal-e-Azam'' (1960) and ''Pakeezah'' (1972).
