Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup. The league is now operated by the Ekstraklasa Spółka Akcyjna. The 2022–23 Ekstraklasa (also known as PKO Ekstraklasa due to sponsorship reasons) is the 97th season of the Polish Football Championship, the 89th season of the highest tier domestic division in the Polish football league system since its establishment in 1927 and the 15th season of the Ekstraklasa under its current title. The league is operated by the Ekstraklasa S.A. The regular season is being played as a round-robin tournament. A total of 18 teams participate, 15 of which competed in the league campaign during the previous season, while the remaining three will be promoted from the 2021–22 I liga. The season will start on 15 July 2022 and will conclude on 27 May 2023. As the 2022 FIFA World Cup will start on 21 November, the last round before stoppage will be held on 12–13 November. Edward Cetnarowski
Edward Cetnarowski (3 October 1877 Rzeszow - 3 September 1933 Krakow) was a Polish sports official, gynaecologist and one of the most famous personalities of the sports club Cracovia. Even though Cetnarowski was regarded as one of the top Polish gynecologists (he was an assistant to the famous doctor Henryk Jordan), he is most renowned as director of Cracovia, which in the 1920s and 1930s was one of the strongest sports clubs in Poland. During this time, Cracovia, in spite of financial crises shaking Poland, became a team known all over Europe. It was he who organized Cracovia's tournee to Spain in the mid-1920s. The Polish Super Cup (, ) is an annually held match between the champions of the Ekstraklasa and the Polish Cup winners or, if the Ekstraklasa champions also win the Polish Cup, the Cup's runners-up. As of 2021, the Polish Super Cup has been played 31 times. The most successful club is Lech Poznań, who won 6 times. The most common participant are Legia Warsaw, as they played fourteen final games and have lost their eight following finals since 2012. Unlike in Polish Cup, there is no extra time played in the competition, therefore in case of a draw after regular time match goes straight into a penalty shoot-out. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season.
