Eivind Stenersen Engelstad
Eivind Stenersen Engelstad (21 June 1900 – 16 February 1969) was a Norwegian archaeologist and art historian. Personal life Engelstad was born in Kristiania as the son of jurist Bjarne Engelstad (1872–1939) and grandson of engineer Jess Julius Engelstad (1822–1896). He was married to Danish born art historian Helen Wright. Career Eivind Stenersen Engelstad took the dr.philos. degree in 1934 on the thesis ''Østnorske ristninger og malinger av den arktiske gruppe''. Other publications include the art historic ''Senmiddelalderens kunst i Norge ca. 1400–1535'' (1936) and ''Kunstindustrien'' (1950). In 1948 he was hired as assistant keeper at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. From 1953 he was the Public Director of Museums, a post abolished when he left in 1960. Helen Engelstad
Helen Engelstad (27 May 1908 – 5 March 1989) was a Norwegian author, art historian and educator. Biography Helen Wright was born in Elsinore, Helsingør Municipality, Denmark. Her childhood was characterized by prosperity and contact with the intellectual community. She continued her education at the University of Copenhagen. She later worked at the Danish Museum of Art & Design at the University for two years. She moved to Norway in 1930 when she married Norwegian art historian Eivind Stenersen Engelstad (1900-1969). Their marriage was dissolved in 1951. Helen Engelstad first worked as an assistant at the Stavanger Museum. From 1946 to 1947 she was the manager of the museum at the Royal Manor of Ledaal. From 1947 to 1976 she was the rector of the National Arts and Crafts Teacher's College, an entity now a part of the Oslo University College. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. Jess Julius Engelstad
Jess Julius Engelstad (1822 – 1896) was a Norwegian engineer and railroad administrator. Engelstad was born in Christiania as the son of customs surveyor Christopher Engelstad (1786–1835). He was the grandfather of museum director Eivind Stenersen Engelstad (1900–1969). An engineer by education, Engelstad oversaw the construction of numerous bridges during the 1850s, including Nygårdsbroen, Sarpebrua and Fossum Bridge. From 1859 to 1896 he was the manager of the Hoved Line, the first railway line in Norway. He was also a director of traffic in the Norwegian State Railways Vygruppen, branded as Vy, is a government-owned railway company which operates most passenger train services and many bus services in Norway. Norsk Folkemuseum (Norwegian Museum of Cultural History), at Bygdøy, Oslo, Norway, is a museum of cultural history with extensive collections of artifacts from all social groups and all regions of the country.
