Eighth Street (Metromover Station)
Brickell City Centre, formerly known and still referred to as Eighth Street, is a Metromover station in the Brickell district of Downtown, Miami, Florida Florida is a state located in the Southeastern region of the United States. Florida is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the northwest by Alabama, to the north by Georgia, to the east by the Bahamas and Atlantic Ocean, and to ..., east of Little Havana. This station is located on the Tamiami Trail (Southeast Eighth Street/ US 41) near First Avenue. It opened to service May 26, 1994. Eighth Street station and its grounds received significant upgrades as part of Swire Properties' $1.05 billion Brickell City Centre project throughout its closure from August 2014 to November 2015. While the station reopened in 2015, the third floor connection to Brickell City Centre remained closed through October 2016. The Tamiami Trail () is the southernmost of U.S. Highway 41 (US 41) from State Road 60 (SR 60) in Tampa to US 1 in Miami. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. A people mover or automated people mover (APM) is a type of small scale automated guideway transit system. The term is generally used only to describe systems serving relatively small areas such as airports, downtown districts or theme parks.
