Egon Wellesz
Egon Joseph Wellesz, CBE, FBA (21 October 1885 – 9 November 1974) was an Austrian, later British composer, teacher and musicologist, notable particularly in the field of Byzantine music. Early life and education in Vienna Egon Joseph Wellesz was born on 21 October 1885 in the district of Vienna to Samú Wellesz and Ilona Wellesz (née Lovenyi). Although his parents met and married in Vienna, they both originated from Hungary and came from Jewish families in that nation. His parents, while ethnically Hungarian Jews, were both practising Christians in Vienna and Wellesz received a Protestant upbringing. He later converted to Catholicism. As a boy he attended the on where he received a classical education in Greek and Latin. The Vienna State Opera (, ) is a historic opera house and opera company based in Vienna, Austria. The 1,709-seat Renaissance Revival venue was the first major building on the Vienna Ring Road. Guido Adler
Guido Adler (1 November 1855 – 15 February 1941) was a Moravian-Austrian musicologist and writer. Early life Adler was born at Eibenschütz in Moravia in 1855 of Jewish parentage. He moved with his family to Vienna nine years later. His father Joachim, a physician, died of typhoid fever in 1857. Joachim contracted the illness from a patient, and therefore told his wife Franciska to "never allow any of the children to become a doctor". Adler studied at the University of Vienna and — at the same time (1868-1874) — the Vienna Conservatory of Music (where he studied piano (main subject) and music theory and composition under Anton Bruckner and Otto Dessoff). Adolf Franz Karl Viktor Maria Loos (; 10 December 1870 – 23 August 1933) was an Austrian and Czechoslovak architect, influential European theorist, and a polemicist of modern architecture. Eugenie Schwarzwald,(née Nußbaum) (4 July 1872 - 7 August 1940) was a progressive Polish philanthropist, writer and pedagogue, who founded the innovative Schwarzwald school and developed education for girls in Austria and was one of the most learned women of her time. In music theory, counterpoint is the relationship of two or more simultaneous musical lines (also called voices) that are harmonically dependent on each other, yet independent in rhythm and melodic contour.
