The Faroe Islands Premier League (also known as ''Betri deildin menn'' for sponsorship reasons) is the top level of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1942 as Meistaradeildin, and it is played in current format since 2005, when Premier League replaced 1. deild as the country's top football division. The league is organised by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It is contested by 10 clubs. At the end of every season, two teams are relegated and two promoted from 1. deild. All teams in the league have semi-professional status. As of April 2022, the Faroe Islands Premier League is ranked 44th out of 55 leagues in the UEFA coefficient. B68 Toftir
B68 Toftir is a Faroese football club, playing in the village of Toftir in Betri deildin. History After being promoted to the 1. deild (now called Effodeildin) in 1980, they won the league 3 times: in 1984, 1985, and 1992. In 2004 they were relegated. 2005 saw them bounce back to the top flight, coming first in the second division, but they were again relegated from the Premier Division at end of the 2006 season. In 2007, they easily won the second division, and were promoted. In the 2008 season, they came 6th out of 10 in the Premier League. In the 2009 season, they finished in 4th place. In 2010, they finished as number 7 in the Effodeildin, and in 2011, they finished as number 6. In 2012, B68 Toftir ended as number 9 in Effodeildin and were relegated: they only needed to score one more goal against TB Tvøroyri in the final round to stay up. Víkingur Gøta
Víkingur is a semi-professional association football, football club in the Faroe Islands. The club was founded in 2008 after the merger of GÍ Gøta and Leirvík ÍF. The club is based in Leirvík, while the Serpugerði Stadium, stadium is in Norðragøta. Both villages are part of the same municipality Eysturkommuna, located on the island of Eysturoy and about 5 kilometers away from each other. The club won the Faroese championship for the first time in the 2016 season. In the 2017 season, Vikingur won the championship again. 07 Vestur
07 Vestur is a Faroese football club, which was founded in 2007. It is located in Sandavágur and Sørvágur on Vágar island. History The club was founded 18 December 1993 as FS Vágar. It was a merger of Vágar island teams MB Miðvágur and SÍF Sandavágur in order to increase the footballing standard of this part of the Faroe Islands. SÍ Sørvágur, also located on Vágar, joined the club in 1998. Soon, the newly founded club promoted to the national top league which, at that point in 1995, was called 1. deild. Unfortunately, the team was not able to permanently secure a top-tier spot over the years. In 2003, FS Vágar was relegated for good. Fróði Benjaminsen
Fróði Benjaminsen (born 14 December 1977) is a Faroese international footballer who plays as a defender or midfielder for Skála ÍF. Benjaminsen previously played for HB Tórshavn, B68 Toftir, Fram Reykjavík and B36 Tórshavn. He has appeared a record number of times for the Faroe Islands, and captained the national team since 2008. In 2015, he retired from the national team, but continued to play for HB Tórshavn in 2016. On 16 August 2016, Benjaminsen came out of international retirement, and was included in the Faroe Islands squad against Hungary in the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification. Club career In 2004, Benjaminsen transferred to Fram Reykjavík of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild. On 20 December 2004, he signed a contract with B36 Tórshavn to return to his home country. Skála Ítróttarfelag (Skála ÍF) is a Faroese football club based in Skáli, municipality of Runavík. The club was founded on 15 May 1965. They currently play in the Betrideildin, which is the top football league of the Faroe Islands. They were promoted to the top league after winning the 2015 season of 1, deild with 70 points. They were also promoted to the top tier after the 2013 season, but were relegated after one year in the Effodeildin. Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag ( Faroese for ''Sports Club of Klaksvík''), commonly known as KÍ, is a Faroese professional football club based in Klaksvík. The club was founded in 1904 and is one of the most successful Faroese football clubs, having won the Faroe Islands Premier League 20 times and the Faroe Islands Cup 6 times. Klæmint Andrasson Olsen (born 17 July 1990) is a Faroese footballer who plays as a striker for Besta deild karla club Breiðablik and the Faroe Islands national team. Olsen spent his entire football career with his hometown club NSÍ Runavík before joining Breiðablik on loan in 2022. 2005 Faroe Islands Premier League
The Faroe Islands Premier League 2005 season was the 63rd season of league football in the Faroe Islands. Because of a sponsorship deal with IT company ''Formula'', the league was renamed ''Formuladeildin'' (Formula Division). The season was close throughout at the top of league, with HB, B36 and Skála each vying for a place at the top of league. This continued until the end of the season and there was a close finish. HB beat KÍ 2–1 to set up a last day finale against B36. If HB won, they would become champions. If B36 won, they would become champions. If the match finished in a draw, then Skála would become champions if they beat GÍ Gøta at home. In the decisive match, HB took the lead just before half-time. EB/Streymur is a Faroe Islands, Faroese semi-professional association football, football club based in Streymnes and Eiði. The club was founded in 1993, as result of the merger between Eiðis Bóltfelag, EB and Ítróttarfelagið Streymur, Streymur. They have won the Faroe Islands Premier League twice and the Faroe Islands Cup four times.
