Edward James Sexsmith
Edward James Sexsmith (29 August 1865 – 5 April 1946) was a Canadian politician, farmer and minister. Sexsmith was a Progressive party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Richmond Township, Lennox and Addington County, Canada West. He was elected to Parliament at the Lennox and Addington riding in the 1921 general election. Lennox And Addington County
Lennox and Addington County is a county and census division of the Canadian province of Ontario. The county seat is Greater Napanee. It is located in the subregion of Southern Ontario named Eastern Ontario. Around the middle of the 19th century, the Addington Road was built by the province to encourage settlement in the northern sections of the county. Historical evolution The two original counties of Lennox and Addington, respectively named after Charles Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond and Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth, were organized for electoral purposes in 1792, and were situated within the Mecklenburg District. Prince Edward—Lennox was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was created in 1924 from Prince Edward riding and parts of Lennox and Addington riding. It initially consisted of the county of Prince Edward and the townships of Adolphustown, Amherst Island, Fredericksburg (North and South) and Richmond in the county of Lennox and Addington. In 1933, the township of Ernestown in the county of Lennox and Addington was added to the riding. 1925 Canadian Federal Election
The 1925 Canadian federal election was held on October 29, 1925 to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 15th Parliament of Canada. The Conservative party took the most seats in the House of Commons, although not a majority. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party was invited to form a minority government. Unlike the Conservative party, King's Liberals had the conditional support of the many Farmer/Progressive MPs. The government fell the following year. Governor General Baron Byng of Vimy offered the Conservatives under Meighen a chance to form government. This too fell in short order. Byng's action precipitated the " King–Byng Affair", which became the main issue of the 1926 election. John Hubbs (20 November 1874 – 1 June 1952) was a Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Wellington, Ontario and became a canner and manufacturer. The son of Charles Hubbs and Margaret Baird, Hubbs attended secondary school at Picton, Ontario. He became owner of John Hubbs Canning Company. He was first elected to Parliament at the Prince Edward riding in the 1921 general election. The Province of Canada (or the United Province of Canada or the United Canadas) was a British colony in North America from 1841 to 1867. Its formation reflected recommendations made by John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, in the Report on the Affairs of British North America following the Rebellions of 1837–1838. The 1921 Canadian federal election was held on December 6, 1921, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 14th Parliament of Canada. The Union government that had governed Canada through the First World War was defeated, and replaced by a Liberal government under the young leader William Lyon Mackenzie King. A new third party, the Progressive Party, won the second most seats in the election. Since the 1911 election, the country had been governed by the Conservatives, first under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Borden and then under Prime Minister Arthur Meighen.
