Edward Evelyn (footballer)
Edward Clement Evelyn (18 November 1862 – 5 May 1936) was a Welsh international footballer. He was part of the Wales national football team, playing 1 match on 26 February 1887 against England. On club level he played for Crusaders. He emigrated to the United States and died in Nebraska in 1936. A newspaper obituary of his death claimed dubiously that he was the son of a Lord Evelyn. He had two brothers. Francis was a first-class cricketer, while William was a historian. Scottsbluff, Nebraska
Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, in the western part of the state of Nebraska, in the Great Plains region of the United States. The population was 14,436 at the 2020 census. Scottsbluff is the largest city in the Nebraska Panhandle, and the 13th largest city in Nebraska. Scottsbluff was founded in 1899 across the North Platte River from its namesake, a bluff that is now a U.S. National Park called Scotts Bluff National Monument. Francis Evelyn
Francis Lyndon Evelyn (24 May 1859 – 8 December 1910) was a Welsh first-class cricketer. The son of Francis Evelyn senior, he was born at Presteigne in May 1859. He was educated at Rugby School, before going up to Oriel College, Oxford. While studying at Oxford, he played first-class cricket for Oxford University in 1880 and 1881, making five appearances. He struggled as a batsman in his five matches, scoring just 33 runs with a high score of 10. After graduating from Oxford, Evelyn was commissioned into the Herefordshire Light Infantry as a second lieutenant in December 1880. By 1884, he was serving in the Shropshire Light Infantry as a lieutenant, resigning his commission in April 1884. Evelyn served as a deputy lieutenant for Herefordshire in 1885, before serving as the High Sheriff of Radnorshire in 1887. He also served as a justice of the peace for Radnorshire. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. William Arthur Evelyn (4 October 1860 – 6 January 1935) was a distinguished historian of York, England. He championed the preservation and conservation of the city’s architectural and archaeological heritage. He also gathered an extensive collection of paintings, drawings and photographs of the city. The artworks were later sold to York Art Gallery. The Evelyn collection of photographs are now cared for by the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society (Y.A.Y.A.S).
