Edward C. Romfh
Edward Coleman "E.C." Romfh (February 8, 1880 – January 16, 1952) was the 12th Mayor of the city of Miami. Romfh was a businessman and politician and considered one of the City of Miami's pioneers. Romfh arrived in Miami in 1896 and established a grocery store. He was later a bookkeeper for the Bank of Bay Biscayne. This started his banking experience. Later Romfh became president of First National Bank and served as the director of First Trust and Savings Bank. His wife was on the board of directors as well. He famously defied the Great Depression era bank closures that befell the entire country and kept his branch open as long as possible, endearing him to many Miamians who had their money at his bank. He was also a board member of the Miami Telephone Company, which later became part of the Southern Bell network. By every account, Romfh was successful. Camden, Arkansas
Camden is a city in and the county seat of Ouachita County in the south-central part of the U.S. state of Arkansas. The city is located about 100 miles south of Little Rock. Situated on bluffs overlooking the Ouachita River, the city developed because of the river. The recorded history began in 1782 when a Spanish military post was established on the site of an old French trading post called ''Écore à Fabri.'' When Ouachita County was formed in 1842, American settlers changed the name to Camden. The city became an important port during the steamboat era when Camden became known as the “Queen City” of the Ouachita. In 1864, Camden became the unintended focus of the Red River Campaign, a major Civil War effort resulting in several significant battles. In 2000, Camden had a population of 13,154, but it lost 7.4 percent of its residents and recorded 12,183 in 2010. Southern Bell
Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company was once the regional Bell Operating Company serving the states of Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina prior to the breakup of AT&T. It also covered the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee until 1968 when those were split off to form South Central Bell. The company was originally known as the Atlanta Telephonic Exchange, having been created to service citizens of Atlanta in 1879, before it was renamed in 1882. Southern Bell also operated in Charleston and other parts of West Virginia, from 1883 until 1917, when the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of West Virginia took over operations there. Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Park North Cemetery And Mausoleum
Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Park North Cemetery and Mausoleum is one of the oldest cemeteries in Miami, Florida. Woodlawn Park Cemetery–North was established in 1913 by three pioneers in Miami's early history – Thomas O. Wilson, William N. Urmey and Clifton D. Benson. The Woodlawn group of cemeteries grew throughout the years, and funeral homes were added as well. The founders imported rare tropical trees and shrubs to adorn the cemetery, including the first schefflera (umbrella trees) and mahogany trees brought to the United States. History Woodlawn Park in 1926 commissioned a noted mausoleum architect, McDonald Lovell, to design a mausoleum for the park. The present building covers more than a city block, accented with marble, stained glass, and hand-wrought bronze gates. The government of the city of Miami, Florida is organized under the City Charter, which provides for a mayor-commissioner form of city government. Thousands of years before Europeans arrived, a large portion of south east Florida, including the area where Miami, Florida exists today, was inhabited by Tequestas. The Tequesta (also Tekesta, Tegesta, Chequesta, Vizcaynos) Native American tribe, at the time of first European contact, occupied an area along the southeastern Atlantic coast of Florida. They had infrequent contact with Europeans and had largely migrated by the middle of the 18th century. Miami is named after the Mayaimi, a Native American tribe that lived around Lake Okeechobee until the 17th or 18th century. The Spanish established a mission and small garrison among the Tequesta on Biscayne Bay in 1567. The mission and garrison were withdrawn a couple of years later. In 1743 the governor of Cuba established another mission and garrison on Biscayne Bay.
