Education in Tripura, a state in Northeast India, is provided by both the public sector and the private sector. On 8 September 2013, the literacy rate of Tripura was declared to be 94.65%, which is the highest among all states of India. Literacy Data from 2011 census of India reveals that overall literacy rate in the State was 87.75 percent with male literacy rate of 92.18 percent and female literacy rate of 83.14 percent. Structure Tripura schools are run by the state government or by private organisations, including religious institutions. Maharaja Bir Bikram University
Maharaja Bir Bikram University (MBB University) is a state university located at Agartala, Tripura, India. It is the first, and the only state university in the state of Tripura. The university is named after Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman, the last ruling maharaja of the princely state of Tripura. Tripura University is a central university, the main public government university of Tripura, India. History Higher education in Tripura has its beginning with Maharaja Bir Bikram College (MBBC), the first-degree college in the state, established in 1947, and affiliate to Calcutta University (CU). This was followed by Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in 1950, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College formerly known as Belonia College in 1964 and Ramthakur College in 1967, all affiliated to CU. As of 2011 it was the least populous district of Tripura (out of 8), although it is the largest district in the state. North Tripura is an administrative district in the state of Tripura in India. The district headquarters are located at Dharmanagar. The district occupies an area of 1422.19 km² and has a population of 693,947 (as of 2011). History The territory occupied by North Tripura district was part of the princely state of Tripura until 9 September 1949, when it was merged with the Union of India.
