Edson Santos (politician)
Édson Santos de Souza (born 21 July 1954) is a Brazilian sociologist and politician. He has been a city councilor in Rio de Janeiro since 2023, a post he previously occupied from 1989 to 2007. He has also been vice-president of the municipal chamber. He was also a federal deputy from the state of Rio de Janeiro from 2007 to 2015, and the chief minister of the Ministry of Racial Equality from 2008 to 2010. He is currently affiliated with the Workers' Party (PT). He is noted for his long-standing presence in decisions made for racial equality during his time as minister. Biography Santos was born in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Horto. He studied social sciences at Rio de Janeiro State University at the beginning of the 1980s, during which he was also director of the National Union of Students. Artur Da Távola
Paulo Alberto Moretzsohn Monteiro de Barros (3 January 1936 – 9 May 2008), better known by the pseudonym Artur da Távola, was a Brazilian politician, Senator, journalist, and writer. Távola began his career as a journalist and writer. He authored twenty-three books during the course of his career. He did not enter politics until 1960. He was forced into exile in Bolivia and Chile from 1964 until 1968 due to Brazil's military dictatorship, which remained in power from 1964 until 1985. Távola adopted his well-known pseudonym "Artur da Tavola," which was a reference to King Arthur. His adopted name allowed him to resume his career in journalism while the military dictatorship was still in power. Távola returned to politics following the end of military rule in 1985. Luiz Lindbergh Farias Filho, commonly known only as Lindbergh Farias (born 8 December 1969), is a Brazilian former student union leader and politician. Lindberg became famous as student leader, specially in 1992, when he was president of the National Union of Students (UNE) and one of the main leaders of the student movement ''Caras-Pintadas'' (''Painted Faces'') against the then president Fernando Collor de Mello, who was his ally before Lindberg's political career. Farias attended Medicine and Law colleges, but never got a degree. After leaving the student movement, he was elect Federal Deputy for two legislatures. Catete Palace
The Catete Palace ( pt, Palácio do Catete, ) is an urban mansion in Rio de Janeiro's Flamengo neighborhood. The property stretches from ''Rua do Catete'' (Catete Street) to ''Praia do Flamengo'' ( Flamengo Beach). Construction began in 1858 and ended in 1867. From 1897 to 1960, it was Brazil's presidential palace and the site of Getúlio Vargas' suicide. It now houses the ''Museu da República'' (Republic Museum) and a theatre. The Catete underground rail station is adjacent. History The building was built as the residence of family of the Portuguese-born Brazilian coffee producer António Clemente Pinto, Baron of Nova Friburgo, in the then capital of the Empire of Brazil.
