Edmonton Storm (football)
The Edmonton Storm are a women's football team in the Western Women's Canadian Football League's (WWCFL) Western Conference. The team is based in Edmonton, Alberta. The Storm are Alberta's oldest competitive women's tackle football club. Team history The Storm were founded in 2004. By 2010 there was growing momentum around women's football in Alberta, and the Storm joined together with the Calgary Rockies and Lethbridge Steel clubs to form the Alberta Female Football League (AFFL). The Storm finished atop the league in its lone season. In 2011, the AFFL was absorbed by the WWCFL, which included the Manitoba Fearless and new teams based in Winnipeg, Regina, and Saskatoon. The league began play in 2011 with the Alberta-based teams forming the Western Conference, and the four other teams forming the Prairie Conference. 2022 IFAF Women's World Championship
The 2022 IFAF Women's World Championship was the fourth IFAF Women's World Championship, an American football competition for women. It was held between July 30 and August 7, 2022, after originally having been planned for 2021. The tournament was hosted at Myyrmäen jalkapallostadion in Vantaa, Finland. The defending champion is the United States. On the eve of the tournament, Mexico announced that they would not be able to make it to Finland for their first round game against Great Britain, putting their participation in the tournament in jeopardy. The next day it was announced that Great Britain would win their quarterfinal matchup with Mexico on walk over. Western Women's Canadian Football League
The Western Women's Canadian Football League (WWCFL) is a full-contact women's Canadian football league which began play in the spring of 2011. The league plays an annual season in the spring or summer, and with eight teams it is the largest women's football league in Canada. The teams play 12-woman tackle football games using the Football Canada rules, somewhat similar to those of the Canadian Football League. The league has teams in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta (the Prairie Provinces). The IFAF Women's World Championship is the international championship for women in American football. The first event was held in 2010, in Stockholm, Sweden, with six countries competing. The United States took home the gold while not letting any team they played score. The second event was held in 2013, with Vantaa, Finland, hosting the games. The United States swept the competitors again, winning the gold medal. Third event was played in 2017 with Canada as the host nation.
