Edmonton Eagles
The Edmonton Eagles were a Canadian professional soccer team in Edmonton, Alberta that competed in the original Canadian Professional Soccer League in 1983. They finished as champions in the league's only season. History After the Edmonton Drillers of the North American Soccer League folded following the 1982 season, a new professional team was founded by local business man, John Tiemessen, to play in the inaugural season of the new Canadian Professional Soccer League in 1983. Much of the Drillers fanbase carried over to support the Eagles, although they did not receive much television coverage, although some matches were carried by local radio station CKER-FM. Two local companies - Sorrento Restaurant and Lounge and 126 CFRN Radio partnered to purchase 15,000 tickets to matches to distribute to youth soccer players under the age of 14 to watch matches, as part of the Eagles Junior Fan Club. Clarke Stadium
Clarke Stadium is a multipurpose facility located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The stadium was originally used for Canadian football. Over the years different sports have participated at the site. Presently, it is the home of the Edmonton Huskies and the Edmonton Wildcats of the Canadian Junior Football League. History The stadium was originally built in 1938 and named for then-Mayor Joseph Clarke. It was built on land deeded to the city for the purpose of constructing public sports fields by the federal government (Prime Minister Mackenzie King was a personal friend of Clarke). The original Clarke Stadium accommodated approximately 20,000 fans in the spartan conditions consistent with its era. The seating area consisted of two grandstands on opposing sidelines. Randy Samuel
Randolph FitzGerald Samuel (born 23 December 1963) is a Trinidad-born Canadian former soccer player who played as a defender. His 82 international caps were a Canada national team record until he was surpassed by Paul Stalteri in September 2010. He started his career with the Edmonton Eagles and Vancouver Whitecaps, before joining Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven in 1985. Playing just five Eredivisie games for PSV, he moved on to FC Volendam in 1987, becoming a key member of the team until he moved on to league rivals Fortuna Sittard in 1990. Sittard were relegated into the second tier, and Samuel moved on to English side Port Vale in November 1995. Failing to make an impact in England, he left in May 1996, and signed with Norwegian side Harstad IL. He later played for the Vancouver 86ers, the Hampton Roads Mariners, and the Montreal Impact. Carlos Humberto Rivas Torres (born 24 May 1953) is a Chilean retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Rivas was a midfielder for Colo-Colo in 136 official games over five seasons, and he scored 40 goals during that time. Jovica "Joe" Raduka ( sr-cyr, Јовица "Џо" Paдукa; born January 18, 1954) is a former Serbian-American soccer player who began his career with Red Star Belgrade before spending time with indoor and outdoor teams in the U.S., Canada and Belgium. He currently runs a youth soccer club in Cleveland, Ohio. Player Professional Raduka began his professional career with Yugoslav First League club Red Star Belgrade. On February 9, 1978, Raduka signed a two-year contract with the Oakland Stompers of the North American Soccer League (NASL). Ross Ongaro (born September 9, 1959) is a retired Canadian soccer player who earned one cap each with the Canada U-20 men's national soccer team and Canadian Olympic soccer team. He played professionally in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League, Western Soccer Alliance and American Indoor Soccer Association.
