Edmonton-West Henday
Edmonton-West Henday is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. The district is one of 87 districts mandated to return a single member (MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. It was contested for the first time in the 2019 Alberta election. Geography The district is located in western Edmonton, consisting of two residential areas separated by a large, mostly un-populated industrial area. In the northeast corner of the riding are the neighbourhoods of Wellington, Athlone and Calder, and in the south of the riding are the neighbourhoods of Terra Losa, La Perle, Belmead, Stewart Greens, Webber Greens, Suder Greens, Potter Greens, Breckenridge Greens, Rosenthal and Secord. Belmead is a residential neighbourhood in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Residents in Belmead live just to the west of West Edmonton Mall, the largest shopping centre in Canada. A portion of the neighbourhood, from 188 Street to 190 Street, is called Park West. While residential development of the neighbourhood began in the 1960s, when 6.3% of all residences were constructed, according to the 2001 federal census, most residential development took place during the 1970s. It was during the 1970s that six out of ten (59.6%) residences were constructed. Another one in five (19.2%) were built during the 1980s and one in eight (12.6%) were built during the 1990s. The Alberta New Democratic Party (french: Nouveau Parti démocratique de l'Alberta), commonly shortened to Alberta's NDP, is a social-democratic political party in Alberta, Canada. The 2019 Alberta general election was held on April 16, 2019, to elect 87 members to the 30th Alberta Legislature. In its first general election contest, the Jason Kenney-led United Conservative Party (UCP) won 54.88% of the popular vote and 63 seats, defeating incumbent Premier Rachel Notley. The governing Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) were reduced to 24 seats and formed the Official Opposition. The United Conservative Party was formed in 2017 from a merger of the Progressive Conservative Party and the Wildrose Party after the NDP's victory in the 2015 election ended nearly 44 years of Progressive Conservative rule. The 30th Alberta Legislative Assembly was constituted after the general election on April 16, 2019. The United Conservative Party (UCP), led by Jason Kenney, won a majority of seats and formed the government. Edmonton-Calder was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 1993 and again from 1996 to 2019. History The first Edmonton-Calder electoral district was created in the 1971 boundary redistribution from the electoral districts of Edmonton North West and Edmonton North. Secord is a neighbourhood located in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It covers an area of approximately 248 hectares. Secord is bounded to the north by Stony Plain Road (Highway 16A), south by 92 Avenue, east by Winterburn Road (215 Street), and west by 231 Street (Hillview Road / City Boundary).
