Edgley International is a theatre and concert promotions company from Australia, first started in the 1930s and run by several generations. It has also been known as Edgley & Dawe Attractions, Edgley Ventures, and Michael Edgley International. The company is noted for bringing to Australia many foreign acts not previously seen in the country, particularly dance companies and circuses from Russia. Origins English song and dance vaudeville brothers Eric Edgley and Clement Edward were invited to Australia in 1920 by J&N Tait to appear in a production of ''Sinbad the Sailor'' at King's Theatre, Melbourne. Born as Eric and Clem White, to musician Richard White and dancer Lizzie Warton, they changed their names in their early years to stage names, considering that "White" was uninteresting and became duo "Edgley and Dawe" The partnership later toured Australia for theatre manager J. Ben Fuller (producer)
Sir Benjamin John Fuller (20 March 1875 – 10 March 1952) was an English-born Australian theatrical entrepreneur. Biography Benjamin John Fuller was born on 20 March 1875 in Shoreditch, London to compositor John Fuller (senior) and Harriett, ''née'' Jones. From December 1884 to February 1885 young Ben appeared in a juvenile production of ''The Pirates of Penzance'' at the Savoy Theatre; two years later he was a member of Montague Robey's Midget Minstrels and later joined Warwick Gray's Juvenile Opera Company. Ben's father, John Fuller Snr., a tenor, gave up his day job as a compositor when he was invited to join the songwriter Harry Hunter's Mohawk Minstrels in October 1881. In 1889, John Fuller Snr. accepted an invitation to tour Australia with the London Pavilion Company and arrived in Melbourne aboard the ''Cuzco'' on 3 August 1889. Phar Lap (film)
''Phar Lap'' (also released as ''Phar Lap: Heart of a Nation'') is a 1983 film about the racehorse Phar Lap. The film stars Tom Burlinson and was written by David Williamson. Plot A chestnut Thoroughbred horse called Phar Lap, known as Bobby by his strapper Tommy Woodcock (Tom Burlinson), collapses and dies in Tommy's arms at Menlo Park in California in 1932. The news is greeted with great sadness in Australia. The remainder of the film is done as flashback. ''The Man from Snowy River'' is a 1982 Australian Western drama film based on the Banjo Paterson poem " The Man from Snowy River". The film had a cast including Kirk Douglas in a dual role as the brothers Harrison (a character who appeared frequently in Paterson's poems) and Spur, Jack Thompson as Clancy, Tom Burlinson as Jim Craig, Sigrid Thornton as Harrison's daughter Jessica, Terence Donovan as Jim's father Henry Craig, and Chris Haywood as Curly. West Australian Ballet
West Australian Ballet is the State ballet company of Western Australia and is based in Perth, at the Western Australian Ballet Centre in Maylands. The company was founded in 1952 by Madame Kira Bousloff (formerly of the Ballets Russes) and the oldest ballet company in Australia. Artistic directors have included Garth Welch (1979–83) and Ivan Cavallari (2007–12). The current artistic director is Belgian Aurelien Scannella. Georgian National Ballet
The Georgian National Ballet ( ka, ქართული ეროვნული ბალეტი, tr) is the first professional state dance company in Georgia. Founded by husband and wife Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili in 1945, it was initially named as the Georgian State Dance Company. The Georgian National Ballet has performed at the Albert Hall, The Coliseum, The Metropolitan Opera and Madison Square Garden, among others. In 1967, the dance company performed at La Scala, reportedly the first and the only time a folklore group was given a chance to perform on its stage.
