David Edgerton (historian)
David Edgerton FBA (born 16 April 1959) is an English historian and educator. He was educated at St John's College, Oxford, and Imperial College London. After teaching the economics of science and technology and the history of science and technology at the University of Manchester, he became the founding director of the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine at Imperial College, London, and Hans Rausing Professor. He has held a Major Research Fellowship (2006–2009) from the Leverhulme Trust. In 2013, he led the move of the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine to the Department of History of King's College London. Edgerton's books include ''Warfare State: Britain 1920–1970'' (Cambridge, 2005) and '' The Shock of the Old: Technology and Global History since 1900'' (Profile, 2006). Edgerton Park
Edgerton Park, also known as the Frederick F. Brewster Estate, is a public park on Whitney Avenue, straddling the New Haven– Hamden town line in Connecticut. It is site of the demolished Victorian home of Eli Whitney II, known as "Ivy Nook". In 1909, it became the estate of industrialist Frederick F. Brewster, with a new Tudor-style mansion constructed named Edgerton for its location on the edge of town. The mansion was demolished in 1964, pursuant to Brewster's wishes, after the death of his wife, and the property was donated to the city. The present landscape was designed by Robert Storer Stephenson in 1909. and The property was listed as historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. In 1988, the district included seven contributing buildings, eight other contributing structures, and one contributing object. James Clark Edgerton (February 2, 1896 – October 26, 1973) was a U.S. Army aviator and Airmails of the United States, Air Mail pilot (aircraft), pilot who as a young lieutenant flew the Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., leg on the first day of scheduled Air Mail service in the United States on May 15, 1918. Harold Eugene "Doc" Edgerton (April 6, 1903 – January 4, 1990), also known as Papa Flash, was an American scientist and researcher, a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Henry White Edgerton (October 20, 1888 – February 23, 1970) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Education and career Born in Rush Center, Kansas, Edgerton received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Cornell University in 1910, and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1914. He then entered private practice as an attorney, first in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1914, and then in Boston, Massachusetts from 1915 until 1916. Edgerton was a professor at Cornell Law School from 1916 until 1918, when he returned to private practice in Boston. Glen Edgar Edgerton (April 17, 1887 – April 9, 1976) was a United States Army officer, who served as the Governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1940 to 1944. Biography He was born on April 17, 1887, to Alice and John Edgar Edgerton. He graduated from Kansas State College in 1904 and from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1908, where he was first in his class. Franklin Edgerton (July 24, 1885 – December 7, 1963) was an American linguistic scholar. He was Salisbury Professor of Sanskrit and Comparative Philology at Yale University (1926) and visiting professor at Benares Hindu University (1953–4). Between 1913 and 1926, he was the Professor of Sanskrit at the University of Pennsylvania. He is well known for his exceptionally literal translation of the Bhagavad Gita which was published as volume 38-39 of the Harvard Oriental Series in 1944.
