Edgar Stubbs
Ernest Edgar Stubbs (28 March 1883 – 13 September 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Albert Charles Stubbs (1856-1922), and Maria Stubbs (1862-1939), née Hazelgrove, Ernest Edgar Stubbs was born in Ballarat East, Victoria on 28 March 1883. He married Eva Ethel Maud McDonald on 29 June 1925. Football On 4 July 1906, Stubbs was granted a clearance from Ballarat Imperial Football Club to play with Geelong, and he played his first match against Essendon on 7 July 1906. He played five games in all, with his last appearance in a team that was thrashed by South Melbourne, 14.17 (101) to 5.8 (38), on 4 August 1906. Ballarat East, Victoria
Ballarat East is a suburb of Ballarat in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. From 1857 until 1921 the suburb had its own council (see below). Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Ballarat Imperial Football Club
The Ballarat Imperial Football Club was an Australian rules football club which formerly competed in the Ballarat Football League. The club was one of the most successful teams in the league, winning 17 premierships before it was dissolved in 1955. History The club was formed in the mid-1870s as the "Galatea Football Club" before becoming known as "Ballarat Imperial" in 1878. 1906 VFL Season
The 1906 VFL season was the tenth season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured eight clubs, ran from 5 May until 22 September, and comprised a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the first time, after it defeated by 49 points in the 1906 VFL Grand Final. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria, Australia. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936.
