East Ballarat Football Club
The East Ballarat Football Club was an Australian rules football club which competed in the Ballarat Football League. First formed in 1885 the club remained a junior club in their district, their senior club being Ballarat Imperial Football Club. The upheaval of the 1930s in which the Ballarat competition merged with the Wimmera league for three years resulted with the dissolving of the Imperial. Reformed during the WWII the club in 1944 was promoted to the top level BFL competition. They won six premierships in 1949, 1950, 1964, 1989, 1990 & 1993. The East Point Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club. The football squad competes in the Ballarat Football League. The club, originally named "East Point Kangaroos" was formed in 2001 when historical clubs East Ballarat and Golden Point merged. History The East Ballarat Football Club was formed in 1885 and, at the time of its merger with Golden Point Football Club in 2001, East Ballarat was the second oldest club in the Ballarat Football League after Ballarat Football Club. The East Ballarat Football Club won 6 senior premierships in its history as an independent football club. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria, Australia. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. Golden Point is a suburb of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia located south-east of the CBD. It is the oldest settlement in Greater Ballarat. Gold was discovered at Poverty Point on 21 August 1851 by John Dunlop and James Regan, sparking the Ballarat gold rush. Mark Alan Rasmussen (born 28 November 1983) is a midfielder who plays for Brisbane Premier League side Albany Creek Excelsior FC. He started his career at Football League Championship outfit Burnley, who he joined after being spotted by scout Jack Hixon. He made his debut for the Clarets on 19 April 2003, replacing Matthew O'Neill. His second and final game for Burnley was a substitute appearance on 21 April 2003, when he replaced Gordon Armstrong. However, he was released at the end of the 2002-03 season by Stan Ternent. He then moved to Accrington Stanley on a free transfer, but struggled to make the first team and ended up playing solely in the reserves. One year later, he moved on to non-league side Gateshead. Charlie Clymo
William Charles Clymo (30 October 1884 – 8 October 1955) was the captain of the Ballarat Fire Brigade for almost forty years, and was also an excellent sportsman, being an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda. He later coached Geelong to a premiership in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Originally from Eaglehawk, where he worked as a fireman, Clymo played football on Wednesdays for Eaglehawk and on Saturdays for . He made his St Kilda debut in 1907 and, in that season, was a member of the first St Kilda side to compete in the finals. After three years playing in the VFL, Clymo was appointed captain of the Ballarat Fire Brigade. Re-locating to Ballarat, he became captain-coach of the local Golden Point club in the Ballarat Football League, and led the club to premierships in 1910, 1914 and 1919. Jack Laurie Collins (13 February 1910 – 1 March 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1930s. A centre half forward, Collins debuted for Geelong in 1929. He was a member of their 1931 premiership team and had his best season in 1938 when he finished equal 7th in the Brownlow Medal. Geoff Cunningham (born 7 January 1959) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Early days Cunningham was originally recruited from Golden Point in Ballarat on match permits, but was given a clearance to play the 1978 VFL season. Robert "Bob" Davis (12 June 1928 – 16 May 2011) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early life Bob Davis was born in Clunes and as a teenager he boarded and attended at Ballarat College. A keen South Melbourne supporter he attended a preseason training with the club but was told his services would not be necessary. He returned to Ballarat and played locally with Golden Point.
